2013 Recap and the Golden Hippo Awards

Posted on 01/04/2014 at 11:16 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Whao, dude! I beat like, 5 games (maybe) this year. How do you do that? (plus balance a family?) For me, I bought quite a few games this year (most of them retro games): Probably about 20 games (which is nothing compared to yours).

Hippo awards? We need some Ninja awards! But of course, no one would ever live long enough to get them!

I got a couple old games for Christmas, plus the 30th Anniversary Capcom Character Encyclopedia from my brother (very cool!). So it was a good Christmas.

They're adorable, and the game is great too, if you don't mind a challenge.

Never really been interested in this game, but after reading your review, I might give it a shot (if I ever get the chance). F-Zero was another SNES launch title that showed off Mode 7, and I love that game, so maybe this one would be enjoyable for me as well.

It does feel a lot like Columns, but I have to say, it has the personality and charm that Columns is missing. The SF and DS characters alone (and the awesome music) add a lot to the game.

Yeah, I beat Dual Destinies a while ago, and the last case is long, but very good. I couldn't put the game down, it was good.

Puzzle Fighter is a great game. Check out my blog about it tomorrow for RGOTW.

The Phoenix Wright game is awesome! The stories, characters, and music are all incredible. I know you'll enjoy it.

I just beat A Link Between Worlds, and of course, recommend it whole-heartedly. Sadly, that's the only game I beat in December, but I was able to get several retro games this month: X-men and Columns (Genesis), Blast Corpse and Rayman 2: The Great Escape (N64), Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (PS1), and Double Dragon II: The Revenge (NES). Those are some great games, so I'm very excited!

He's so awesome! So why doesn't Sumo Santa have his own game? Interplay needs to get their act together and do that! Just imagine playing a crazy platformer like Earthworm Jim with this guy, jumping on bad guys, doing crazy wrestling moves on them. . . this is the game that must be made!

Daze was pretty good, although the controls were a little too loose. We need more games where you can play as Santa and save the world from evil, uh. . . elves? Those poor elves are always getting picked on.
