BaD #3: Captain N's Most Most Wanted Switch Games of 2018

Posted on 02/07/2018 at 01:11 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I'll be picking up Kirby, Dark Souls, and Bayonetta Collection for sure. Unsure if Metroid, Bayo 3 and No More Heroes will come this year. Also banking on either Pokemon, Smash Bros, or Mario Maker coming this September to be their big moneymaker and online game to justify their subscription. Maybe Animal Crossing could fill that void too, but I'm more leaning towards the other three.

From what I heard, Miyamoto's comment on DKC was taken the wrong way. He thought the game was fine, but his criticism was more to get Rare to push themselves on improving it than talking down on the game. I think a large part of it had to do with cultural differences. Either way DKC2 was a damn great game, and I think the first is just decent.

Huh, I was definitely on Morgan Freeman's Team Ice of the two. Was a pretty neat team up for ads though. My favorite was Danny Devito as the red M&M though. I just love Danny Devito.

I never owned a SNES or Genesis as a kid, but I still played a ton of Sonic 2 at friends and family's homes. Didn't really play the others until they got rereleased on future hardware.

My Lone Contribution to BaD: My thoughts on the Switch

I feel the same on new gaming hardware. I move to new consoles for new games more than what these machines can do. Switch doesn't really give too many new ideas, it has some but I don't think we'll get a game showcasing HD Rumble as something we can't live without, but it's so convenient. And Switch probably has the most games I'm excited for right now. Pokemon, Bayonetta, Metroid, Kirby, No More Heroes, and Yoshi all look like fun exclusives. Also Dark Souls anywhere sounds awesome.

Even though I thought this was the best year for games in a long time, I can't argue against your GOTY pick. You just can't top the SNES.

Horizon's a good game to play in chunks because most of the game is combat, which is good and unique, but still gets old if you play it for too long at once. I would have had to put that one on hold if the story didn't start to pick up right when the combat got dull.

I'm pretty neutral on regular marshmallows, but I can't stand the freeze dried ones in cereal. Not really a cereal fan in general, but marshmallows always make it worse. I like A Hat in Time okay, but might agree with you in enjoying Yooka-Laylee more. Though I'd play Super Lucky's Tale or Mario Odyssey (despite my issues with the latter) over both of them personally.

Persona 5 Is Finished

Morgana I felt they spent too much time building on his backstory and what they revealed wasn't worth the build up. I think the kids just could have done all that on their own and worked fine. Makoto had that best build up to her Persona awakening, but then just kind of meandered after. Yusuke, Ryuji, and Makoto all dealt with how they were wronged and how they would change their outlook on life because they want to stand up for themselves, while Makoto and Ann just kind of meandered around for their confidants. Which is a shame because I think those two had the most potential after Futaba.

Persona 5 Is Finished

I loved Persona 5. Story really worked for me, since I'm a huge fan of heists and taking down people abusing their power was just the story we needed this year. Characters were hit or miss though, loved Ryuji, Futaba, and Yusuke, Ann and Makoto were fine, but needed more fleshing out, and Haru and Morgana felt kind of pointless when everything was over. Haru I probably need to do a NG+ to say for sure though since her requirements for the confidant are ridiculous.

2018 Most Anticipated

Spider-Man I'm really excited for too for the same reasons as you. DBFZ I'm in the opposite boat, not familiar with the dev, but know they're competent and love DB so I'll be getting it. Shadow I won't say is the best game ever, but also won't argue anyone who claims it is. It doesn't just bank on its artistry or story, you can love it purely for gameplay.

God of War I played the old ones and liked 1, 3, and Ghost of Sparta. Others were meh. New one doesn't interest me beyond the eye candy (meaning I'll rent it). Just don't see a hook in the gameplay department, maybe I'm missing something. I know I'm in the minority, but I just felt RDR was alright. I'll check out 2 because a bunch of my issues with Rockstar games were fixed by giving GTA V competent controls, but also hoping they can deliver a stronger narrative since they put so much focus in that now. Only thought 4 and Vice City had strong ones, but 4 had a whole other huge can of worms.
