Minor Frothy Change

Posted on 02/26/2014 at 01:10 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Haha, thanks! Glad you like it. The overlapping opposite color pellet thing needs to be worked around to make it more fun. I suppose as it is, it makes it "harder"/impossible which is sort of the point of this jam, but I'd rather it just be fun. I have a couple of ideas to get around that issue and I will update it soon, just probably not until the jam is well over. I'll let you guys know.

I also need to make it display your score back at the start screen because it is very easy to tap the spacebar an extra time and not see your score. I will fix that before anything else I have in mind.

The little ditty and all of the sounds are just free 8-bit audio clips I got from Unity. I like how lame they are, really. It plays when you go up a level (every 5 points right now, I think). It's hard to notice, but the range of speeds the pellets can have increases with each level. Eventually they get pretty damn fast.

The screen shots make the dark aesthetic look cool. Too bad in reality it is too dark to see what you're doing in the game.

Thanks, Mikey! Although I'm a total Unity noob, I can definitely see everything it's capable of and it is impressive. I'm looking forward to starting another small project soon... after I clean up my top three irritants with this one, most likely. I just had to get it out by today so I went with it as-is.

I read your blog about game school and haven't commented yet. I will just tell you that you should definitely feel confident about getting started. You have the passion and have put in time on your own to teach yourself a lot already. I wouldn't worry about the school's prestige or reputation much either. I have worked side-by-side with people from Ivy League and local universities... and we all got the same job and the reputations of the schools we went to didn't mean anything about what kind of work we could do. Just prove yourself through your work and you'll do great.

Well, since there are nearly 800 entries in that jam right now, your restraint is unusual! Thanks for playing!

Thanks, Joa! The sounds are mono because they are 8-bit, and more importantly free! I think they fit with the style I had to go with to get things done on time.

I've been trying. It's been hard to fit it in, but I'm trying to scale it up a bit. I really enjoyed seeing you do some development stuff a while back. You probably forgot, but I mentioned before that I had used one of your Pattern Rider songs in the main 3D project I've been working on. Those are some great tracks! Thanks for playing!

The good thing about it is that it is already messed up. You are only risking some money on supplies and your personal time. Not that those are worthless, but even if you fail it will be worthwhile.
