Why Modern FPS Are Terrible

Posted on 01/05/2014 at 04:49 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I agree it's fair. Halo invented something I hate. I never actually criticised Halo, because they are well made games, and a lot better than a lot of shooters these days. I still don't like them, but they have variety in weapons and enemies, they have decent maps that aren't linear as fuck, and they aren't slower than a down syndrome toddler with polio. So Halo is alright. It just invented a lot of shit that IMO has ruined the fps genre.

Yeah, I quite enjoyed Uncharted 2, but didn't have as much fun with 3 because it held your hand, and I feel it tried too hard tbh. But yeah, games holding your hand non-stop needs to stop!

FPS are coming back though. We had Rise of the Triad and Shadow Warrior this year. We're getting another Serious Sam game next year. We've had Hard Reset and whatnot. So things are getting better.

P.S. try and get painkiller working. I LOVE IT!

I didn't mention it, but it kind of was. I assumed everyone knew this rant was about COD and games of its ilk so I skewered towards other games to show the problem isn't just with those games.

That's pretty damn sweet. I do think that that game has the most awe inspiring intros. If the game ended just before the shooting started it would have been perfect, because the shooting is meh lol.

Dude, I'm so sorry! However, what I mentioned was minor, there's still lots for you to discover. Again, sorry man!

Braid is great if you want to think. I'm usually decent with puzzle games but Braid hurt my head something shocking. I think I just don't get those kinds of puzzles, and working with time is something that doesn't overly work for me. HOWEVER, the story is excellent, as is it's deconstruction of gaming narrative - and most importantly - it's fun and challenging. I'd recommend it. It's hard, but not so hard that I didn't finish it.

Yeah, I MUCH prefer single player games, and there's only a few multiplayer games I'll play, like Battlefield, Counter Strike, and LoL.

Oh Fez. You're nowhere near finished. Once you finish, you unlock "New Game Plus" which isn't new game plus at all really. You unlock first person mode which has more puzzles which get ridiculously hard.

It seems like you got some pretty great games. However, what you need to do is buy some multiplayer games so we can play together sometime! Or even just get some of the free ones.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is great! Really surprised me a lot!

I didn't notice that mistake. I edited it though! Also, if that were the case, it would explain a lot haha.

No, my father wasn't the alcoholic. That was my grandfather. That fight me and dad had was a one off. Honestly, we get along pretty well now, it was just at the time things were pretty rough.

Before we talk any further about religion, I consider Atheism a religion. Atheists can be dicks too, they can be violent, and when grouped together they can be just as bad as christians. We just don't have the same violent history as Christians, because, well, we didn't have the chance.

"One thing I still believe is that a person is more than their worst sin." That is a damn good philosophy. And thanks for the invitation! This is all out of my system, so I think for the most part the whole Christian saga shall be over for now.

Right? It even says that in the bible.

That last sentence should just be the universal religion.

Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians though. The only real difference in beliefs is that they don't believe in hell, and they believe only a few will go to heaven, whereas the rest will live forever on earth. Pretty much everything else is the same. For the most part, I like the religion. Like all religions though, it's what it's used for that turns me off. When I say we should do away with religion to advance as a species, I don't mean getting rid of personal worship or beliefs. I mean separating church and state entirely, and stopping relgion from becoming powerful organisations. They should be about belief, not power.
