MIA: DK64, OoT, 1080, Several CDs; Spring Cleaning Leads to Despair

I cased and labeled all my games a month or so ago and I was missing:

Super Mario RPG (SNES)

Mike Tyson's Punch Out! (NES)

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (DS)

Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (GBA)

Metroid Fusion (GBA)

So damn salty about all five of those games.  I'm super anal about keeping my games in order, and to be missing some of my most favorite!?  Grah!  Hopefully they turn up when we move.  In the meantime, I hope those Pokemon games turn up for you!  I couldn't find my old GBAs, either, so no more trading Pokemon from the older games...

And of course, I've been wanting to play Punch Out! and the GBA games really bad since then...

Welcome!  I was a longtime lurker on 1up as well, but have started blogging on PB.  Big fan of the SNES era RPGs, myself.   You might be interested to check out my Quest to Play All the Final Fantasy Games posts.  This Friday is Final Fantasy 2/4 for SNES. Glad to have you on board!

He's definitely a fine character, but you're right, the voice acting... yeesh.  His relationship with his dad had the potential to be a powerful issue, but with his delivery, he sometimes comes off as a petulant twerp.  It didn't stop the story from having clout, but certainly took away when it should have added.  I was always fairly ambivalent about him, overall; his ignorance about Spira worked ok with the actor's take.  In my opinion, Spira's really the star of the show in this entry.  Either way, I'm excited to tear into some Expert Sphere Grid and the Dark Aeons.

This site is awesome.  Really cool to be part of something that sees such regular improvements, transparency, and with a focus on community.  Hats-off; I'm glad to be here.

Thank you!  I'm glad you'll be around for the rest of 'em.  I had the NES guide for a long time before I actually took the plunge on Final Fantasy.  Ended up snagging it at Video Game Exchange (takes me back a bit) for 10 bucks.

I could see how it's like Zelda; especially in how characters make seemingly random cryptic remarks that, once you figure out what you are supposed to do, make complete sense in retrospect.

Wait, wait... people like Tidus? ;)

I think I would have liked him a lot more if the pant legs on his OskKosh B'gosh get-up were the same length.

And that metal track was pretty awesome, for a FF game.  I remember my younger self saying "whoooooa" the first time I heard it.  Finally, some non-orchestral badassery in my Final Fantasy games.  The grunting vocal track goes well with the blitzball players getting punished.  Certainly no Lamb of God or anything, but whatyagonnado.

Stay tuned for 2021, when people are talking about how elite it was when Final Fantasy XIII had such a driving narrative before letting you loose in a large open world.

I love how you open that big gray cartridge and there's a thumb-width little board inside.  Cracks me up every time!  Great DIY; have you thought about doing one for rehabbing the NES itself?  Or replacing the 72 pin connector?  I've done a couple myself, and have had mixed luck with the rehab.  Saved one, had to replace two with new connectors.  Great blog!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!  I hope you stick around for the rest of the series; I'm just getting started :)  For me, it's always a pleasure to hear that I'm not the only one who has a soft spot for Final Fantasy... While I can certainly point out the series' faults (and will, when I come to some of them), it's so much more gratifying to remember what these early entries did well, and how they ensnared my attention.  And continue to, to this day.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one!  And thank you for following along :)  I can definitely see why the first FF would be annoying to folks who weren't weened on it, but to me, it's gaming as comfort food.  I can hear the battle theme playing in my head as I type this response.

I don't know how much I can inspire one to tackle FF II... I've only played it and III once each, so this time through will be my second.  I'm a little apprehensive about it, but I still have to wrap up V and plow through IX first... And maybe X?  I'll have to check the release dates.

Thank you!  I was worried this might get too insider-y, so I'm really glad to hear that it's an interesting read even if you're not into JRPGs.

I always looked at myself more as an English guy as well, and never really thought about the math involved in RPGs until recently.  For my game playing, it waxes and wanes; much of the time, I prefer something twitchy like Super Meat Boy or an action game like God of War.  Sometimes though, the less-stressful experience of a JRPG is just what the doctor ordered.
