Dragon's Dogma: When East Meets West!

Posted on 02/25/2013 at 03:06 PM | Filed Under Blogs

As for the game, it's terrific. I'm holding out on a NG+ until after I play Dark Arisen in April.

As for the bloggin tools, I feel could use a "Save Draft" function at least. I did see a blank blog post that I don't think was intended to be left blank. Just saying...

Not Just a Privilege but a Responsibility: User Generated Content in a Post-1up World

These are very kind words @sneenlantern, however, I must respectfully disagree with your opinion about 1up. I loved the blogging community there, which is why I'm here, but I also loved the Features and Editorials from their staff. A lot of work went into those long articles and I looked forward to them. I went to 1up for their content. I appreciate the work that the writers went through to put up  thoroughly thought out content. I especially enjoyed their podcasts.

I just don't want to diminish the work and effort put out by the staff at 1up. With that said, Pixlbit has terrific reviews and articles that should not be ignored. I've been going through their articles and reviews over the weekend trying to add comments on their posts and the staff has been very responsive. They are very passionate about the games they are writing about.  I would really like to see more great "staff" content, editorials, reviews in the near future. I always stop by the front page first and see what's  new. Pixlbit is a great blogging community but even greater wrting staff

I loved the Final Fantasy retrospective, Etrian Odyssey IV overview, and Crimson Shroud review, just to name a few.

What up! I hate to admit but Demon Souls and Dark Souls is still sitting on my shelf wrapped in cellophane. I hope they don't turn off the PS3 servers soon. I really love old school Castlevania and Souls series really reminds me of a 3D reincarnation. I really wish I had a Master Sword to turn the clock back sometimes.

I know it's a bit early to gripe, so I'll reserve judgment for now, but Lara Croft. I mean the whole rape thing? Come on. Really? I just want some platforming and exploration not Deliverance the game.

...And What About the Wii U?

Posted on 02/24/2013 at 06:18 PM | Filed Under Blogs

While I do think that Nintendo deserves berating for the way it neglected "the core" in it's pursuit of "casual" gamers, I feel that Nintendo has managed to bring games PS3 and XBOX could not. Mainly JRPGs. Thus was able to keep my loyalty. As an adult gamer I haven't had as much time to play games on TV like I used to. Luckily for me, Nintendo DS and 3DS have managed to fill that gaming void for the last 5 years. Especially with virtual console and eShop.Yes, I play PS3, Xbox and Steam, but I really spent more time on DS.

I own WiiU. I feel that "Off TV" play on the gamepad is revolutionary and exactly what I didn't know I needed until I had it. I look forward to WiiU games now. I think they did good with Mario "Off TV". I hope they continue this trend. Unless Xbox and PS4 can do this, I will probably stick to WiiU for the time being.

Etrian Odyssey IV: Party Planning Preview

Posted on 02/24/2013 at 05:06 PM | Filed Under Feature

It's a dungeon crawler viewed in first person mode with random enemy encounters. You can create a custom party with various skills to your liking. For example, mage, warrior, sniper, medic, rogue, etc. The game has unique names for these classes. The dungeons are mazes that you have to revisit until you defeat it's bosses, usually. The bottom DS screen allows you to draw a map of the dungeon so you won't get lost every time you return. There is also item gathering for unlocking better equipment and items in the shop. Most of the previous games were made up of one very deep dungeon with multiple floors. This new game allows you to explore a world map on an airship to search for dungeons instead of being stuck in one big dungeon. The game is challenging at the start because your party is new and low skilled. The game becomes more challenging as you progress which requires use of tactics and strategy, hence the need for sub-classes and unlocking more abilities. Some people like challenging games like those of old times. It's sort of the same reason people like hard games like Dark Souls. You have to learn the game to beat it. This game gives you a lot to tinker with. The visuals and sound are nice too. Also, if any of these games interest you, this is the game that is probably the easiest to get into. Not my words. The internets words.
