Kind of depends on the game and my mood. Sometimes I go for the looong range stuff, like a sniper rifle, but for melee I'd pick twin swords. Oh, and they'd need names, like Judgment and Destruction 
I haven't played the Zeldas yet but I did try out the first level of Shantae. Plays really well. The Virtual Console on 3DS allows save states, so that's pretty cool.
Yeah, you're right. Makes me wonder if the remixer wrote out the sheet music.
I'm hoping to play Mirror's Edge this month too. Been sitting on my copy for two and half years or so lol.

And I know you've talked about it before, but could you give a quick recap of what your game is about? I'd just, you know, play the demo but it's a Windows file and all I've got is a Mac

You're not trying to play Borderlands 2 by yourself, are you? I think that game would really start to drag if played solo. Add in some friends and it's instant fun 
I haven't played any Fire Emblem games yet, so I'm not the best person to answer that question 
I'm confident just from what I've read, though, that Awakening is definitely a good place to jump into its series. Same with SMT IV, though yeah, its more of a traditional RPG rather than a strategy one.
