A little better. understanding of EA

Posted on 03/17/2013 at 06:16 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Being EA's "tech support guru" must be a nightmare. I don't really blame tech support for EA's Sim City debacle. The higher ups calling the shots should have realized right from the get go there were not going to be nearly enough servers to gurantee a smooth experience for a game that absolutely has to be online. That's just common sense.

I bet the tech support peeps even warned their bosses & the developer this kind of shit would happen yet they were not heard over the bad techno music, private jet engines, cocaine snorting, and "adult entertainment". lol. (I'm being a bit snarky and hyperbolic here. For all I know EA's private parties are as uneventful as an 8 year old's birthday celebration at Chucky Cheese's)

Live and learn,EA. Otherwise you're going to lose it all.

Sarkeesian The Damsel?

That's my point of contention too,Celt. I think Sarkeesian could have done a web series on these things without $6,000. (Her original asking price) As a matter of fact, she had done videos "before" starting her Kick-Starter.

Maybe it's just because I feel "guilty" about asking folks for cash myself. We're in a recession and I know most people are struggling.

As for plaid shirts, as far as I know they're rather inexpensive. lol.

Shadows Over Mystara in particular is a great game. It has a depth you normally do not find in the genre. You can actually "level up" your characters and go through different routes that take you to unique locales. Highly recommended!

Favorite Game Sorted By Platform

I wish I could narrow it down to one favorite game on every system I played but it would be tough to do so. I see Ninja Gaiden made it. Ryu Hayabusa gets some respect up in here!

Resident Evil 6 Review

Posted on 03/16/2013 at 06:02 PM | Filed Under Review

One thing I liked about RE 6 was it gave me bang for my buck. So many hyped games clock in at just 6 or so hours and when a game is that short it really makes me feel cheated. In my review of RE 6 on amazon I judged it as a good action game but as a poor survival horror game. My opinion still stands.Regardless, thanks for giving a more honest & fair review for RE 6!

It does. However I don't think "trolls" should always be lumped in with gamers. Certainly there are trolls who are gamers but there are trolls from every other walk of life too.

There are rumors Anita and her followers "trolled 4 chan first" to drum up extra controversy but as I've seen no direct evidence of this, I'm going to assume her Kickstarter started out innocent enough.

However, she definitely benefited from the trolls and had she not been trolled so heinously she wouldn't have gotten so much support.

I don't have a problem with her addressing these things but I do wish she would use better examples and allow people to give her feedback. Other famous you-tube celebrities put up with trolling as well but at least they keep their comment and rating sections open to the public. I understand not wanting to deal with nasty comments but Sarkeesian is outright doing away with "freedom of speech" on her channel.

Also, did she really "need" that much money?

Is combat necessary in games?

Posted on 03/16/2013 at 05:11 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Tough question. I admit I tend to like games with combat in them but I don't mind if that combat is occasionally turn-based strategy as opposed to the usual "Pew Pew/Stab Stab/Die Die" action nonsense. lol. All depends on my mood, I guess.

There's no doubt occasionally I prefer an acoustic folk sound over the synthesized electric stuff I'm accustomed to. By the way, nice bagpipe jig!

Yeah, I rather watch females on youtube that have "true geek/gamer cred". So far it seems like Sarkeesian only picked up games to use them for her rants. I kind of doubt she's ever been a "true gamer" before that. However, she seems to be taken with Joss Whedon so maybe she's half geek! (I feel like a purist asshole for throwing these labels around,Joe. lol.)
