Man, that looks awesome. Lots of style and great music as usual. Seems like they're using the Catherine engine, which is cool because I really liked the way that game looked.

I'm a total mechanics guy. While a good narrative can certainly draw my attention, it's rare that I'm playing a game for that reason.

Can we talk about Metroid and motion controls. ;_;

2 is definitely a tougher experience than the first, but it's totally manageable. If you set the controls to "Expert," they are pretty snappy without having to move your arm/wrist around much. It'll probably take a little getting used to if you played the older games, but once you do, you'll never want to go back to the Cube controls.

I love the pointer controls (there's no waggle, except for Prime 3). They are so much smoother, they just feel right.

Sure, I can definitely understand your point, but in this particular instance, I think it makes a ton of sense. You can certainly write your representatives and complain about the situation, but something tells me that isn't going to really work out. Plus I was more talking about the stance of the dev in this case. It's a pretty brazen stance that makes a statement, I think, to the powers that be.

Also, people who pirate are always going to do it regardless of anything. For the most part, pirates tend to be high school/college kids without any real income who still want to consume entertainment. I know, I used to be one of them. But as I got older and more specifically, graduated from college and got a job, I started to buy all my entertainment or move to services like Netflix to get what I wanted.

There's no real good excuse for piracy (outside of this type of HM2 situation), regardless of the acrobatics people may want to go through to defend it. I did it and I never had a good excuse (and don't feel at all bad about it). I took stuff because it was easy and because I wanted it. Long term, my pirating days turned me on to all sorts of music and entertainment I never would've been interested in otherwise and now that I have income, I support the bands/companies/etc that I enjoy.

I actually think it's awesome that the devs are encouraging people to pirate the game. It's a great tactic to fight censorship. Yeah, it's an odd stance because they aren't going to profit from the sales they could've received, but how else do you stick it to the man in this case?

They can certainly petition the government and ask them to reconsider their rating, but I'm guessing that already happened behind closed doors. When your only option at that point is to self-censor in order to get it released, I have to imagine that some people don't take that decision lightly, or in this case, refuse to do it.

The Outlook For 2015, and Taking Stock of 2014

Posted on 01/13/2015 at 09:56 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I finally picked up a PC capable of gaming and between my enormous Steam library, my Wii U and my 3DS, I've got plenty to keep me busy. Bloodborne is about the only game that has my attention right now that I can't get on one of those platforms and that's certainly not enough to get me to drop the cash for a PS4.

2014 was a pretty bland year for gaming, but there were still quite I few games I really enjoyed, primarily Nintendo's offerings, Dark Souls 2, and the Danganronpa games. I'm looking forward to everything Nintendo has slated for 2015 and the upgraded version of Dark Souls 2, but at the moment that's about it.

Haven't really been following much gaming stuff as of late because I'm just kind of fed up with the whole industry. While I'm not really on the up and up with what's slated for next year, I expect I'll be playing a healthy helping of indie games on my PC throughout the year.

Oh shit, I didn't realize there was a new Soen album. Fuck yeah. Going to check that out right now.

Also, no love for Z2!? Devin Townsend is highly disappointed. Regardless, great list.
