Gaming does seem to be treated as a VIP club, Matt. I've noticed females with "gamer or geek cred" will get grilled alive if they're proven incorrect over select tidbits of nonsensical trivia. Heck, it's happened to me too. I remember some nerds got pissed when I kept referring to Ridley Scott's Xenomorphs as "aliens". It's as if not knowing their real designation was a hangable offense!
I admire the passion of gamers and geeks but I swear we RAGE over the stupidest crap sometimes!
But you're right. Old school geeks seemed more accepting! We didn't sweat the small details. We were happy as clams if our girlfriends so much as watched Star Trek or Star Wars with us. (Even if they didn't know every character and location by name)
