Is combat necessary in games?

Posted on 03/16/2013 at 04:54 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I don't mind turn-based battles in my rpgs nearly as much as I mind action-rpg combat. I'm also not much into sandbox games without objectives, either. That was one of the things that impressed me about Journey - no obvious objective to tell you where to go next, but they made excellent use of human psychology to get you there.

Turn-based battles are the only ones I like, lol.

Hmm...I think this is a downloadable PS2 Classic on PSN. I may have found the cure to my gaming doldrums.

I'm going to have to go find that blog and read it.

Cut it out you two! no breaking of the website that gave us refuge!

I think she's be better off going after the Twilight franchise, myself. She has some valid points, but the way she goes about it just annoys the living shit out of me. I want to tell her to put up or shut up, but that's just me.

The version of Paddy on the Railway that I posted was done by The Wolfe Tones.  But...Rakish Paddy did do that version of Paddy on the Railway, as well as the other, better known one. Aly Bain, the fiddler from Boys of the Lough, is probably one of the best fiddlers out there, along with Alasdair Frasier. Both are Scottish, coincidence? As for The Pogues, they've been around far longer than either The Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly. They pretty much were the first group to mix punk with trad, so technically speaking, the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly sound like The Pogues.

And Jed Marum...he's a transplant from Massachusetts, but he's been in Texas for over 20 years now. If you're interested, his calendar of where he's playing is here. He's worth seeing, and if you do go to one of his gigs, tell him that Tami told you to check out his music. He'll be the subject of a future FMF entry, we're working on an interview now.

999 is on my wish list. I have no issue with violence in games, like I said, it would just be nice to have more choices available.

Seamus is alright. Usually the butt of jokes in the crowd is someone he knows and knows won't mind if he gives them crap. I know from personal experience, lol. And which songs in particular were you referring to as the more top 40 poppy stuff? Just curious.

The song at the end of Waking Ned Devine is called The Parting Glass, and James Nesbit (the actor who played Finn) really did sing it. That's one of my favorite movies, by the way. If I hadn't already ODed on that list, a version of The Parting Glass would have found it's way on there. Plenty more Fridays for that, though.
