BaD 2017.21: the final (fantasy) blog.

Posted on 03/01/2017 at 10:00 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I'm gonna be selfish and wish for a FF game that's 16-bit styled and plays like either FF4 or 6.  I know that'll never happen but that's what I want.

A few years ago I had a really weird dream that I was in a new Final Fantasy game.  It was really epic, I'm surprised my brain came up with it while I was sleeping.  I won't bore you with the details here, but if you'd like for me to tell you more about that dream, feel free to send me a message or let me know here.  I was a White Mage in the dream.

So Much Poo in the Zoo

"So Much Poo in the Zoo" sounds like the title of a children's book.

BaD # 20- Wii Game Collection # 14

Posted on 02/28/2017 at 04:17 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Since I get a little squeamish about hospital stories, i decided to stay away from the Trauma Center games.  Atlus had some funny ways to promote those games at E3, though.  Once time at E3 they had a whole bunch of nurses at their booth...

Wario Land: Shake It was made by Good Feel, who would later go on to do Kirby's Epic Yarn and Yoshi's Woolly World.  The hand drawn animation is fantastic to this day, and they also brought back one of my favorite Nintendo ladies that nobody knows: Captain Syrup!

I don't think I have We Love Golf, but I do have Super Swing Golf, which was Tecmo's 'swing' at the Wii golf game and also based a bit on Pangya.  You could also unlock Tecmo based outfits, like Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and even Bomb Jack!

I actually LIKED Wii Music.  I think the reason why people don't like it is because they expected it to be like Rock Band or Guitar Hero, and it's really more of a toy than a game.  And if you look at it that way, it's great.  I had a lot of fun with it anyway.

I loved Namco's We Ski game.  I also liked its sequel: We Ski and Snowboard.  There is a third game in the series called Go Vacation.  I think all of them are great.

Zack & Wiki was such an awesome game.  But it was also HARD!  It was one of the hardest games that I was actually able to beat.  It's also one of the last games that I think had that classic Capcom "feel." What was cool was it was an early Wii title, which is even more amazing that it turned out so good.

Wii Sports is still my favorite sports video game.  It even beat out Super Dodge Ball on the NES, and that's saying something.

What's Your Favorite Remake?

Posted on 02/28/2017 at 11:46 AM | Filed Under Blogs

There are a lot of remakes that I like.  Donkey Kong for Game Boy is still one of the best arcade updates to this day.  I also really liked the updated Pac-Man games such as Pac-Man Arrangement Arcade and Pac-Man Championship Edition.  Also, the original PSOne Klonoa game was remade for the Wii and it was great.  It's a shame it didn't sell well.  If there was one gaming franchise that deserved a second chance, it's Klonoa!

BaD #28: Captain N's 2016 GOTY Awards

FF9 was a great game.  It was the last major FF game I played through, actually.  My GOTY this year was World of Final Fantasy, so if you enjoyed FF9, you might want to try that as well if you have a PS4 or Vita.

BaD # 19- Wii Game Collection # 13

Yeah I hate it that they took out the mini-games from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom in the US.  I wanted to sweep the floor with Roll and chisel statues with Chun-Li's big ol' legs!

The Monkey King was another game that was originally going to be a Taito shooter remake before they backed out of it.

I liked Skyward Sword a lot, too.  I enjoyed how much more colorful it was over Twilight Princess, and it had one of my favorite Zelda characters ever: Scrapper the Robot!

The reason why The Sky Crawlers plays so well is it was made by the Ace Combat team from Namco.  The anime is horrible, though.

I'm glad you posted the Oscar winners so I could see who won, but I don't really care too much since I haven't seen any of those movies anyway.

It is always interesting to me to see which animated feature and short wins, though.  Glad to see that Piper won.

Gaming's Greatest Remakes #19: Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Posted on 02/28/2017 at 11:26 AM | Filed Under Blogs

This is another 3DS  game that I didn't get since I played it to death on the N64 and since the big draw for the 3DS version was 3D graphics that I couldn't see, I decided to not get it right away.  I still don't have it yet.  Isn't it now one of the Player's Choice games at a reduced price?

BaD #26 Captain N's thoughts on the Sly Cooper Collection

Posted on 02/26/2017 at 10:12 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I played the first Sly game and it felt too Crash Bandicoot-ish for me so I wasn't encouraged to try the others.  Even though I know they're better.  Just can't play ALL the games out there, you know?

RETROspective: Game Boy Heroes

Posted on 02/26/2017 at 10:09 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I was playing Tetris on PC years before it was on Game Boy, so it doesn't seem as special to me being on GB for some reason.

It actually wasn't the first Kirby game that made me the huge Kirby fan I am today.  The game that actually got me into Kirby was Kirby's Dream Course!

Link's Awakening is my all time favorite Zelda game.

Like I said before, GB Donkey Kong is one of the best arcade updates even to this day.

I like Wario Land 2 more than most Mario games.

And you probably know my history with Pokemon and how reviewing all those Pokemon games back at the newspaper helped pay my way through college.
