Buying AAA Games Feels Like Buying New Consoles Now

Posted on 05/31/2014 at 07:26 PM | Filed Under Blogs

You will also notice a lot of games from the PS2 era packed a lot of punch. Many games back in the day had a plethora of "unlockables". Everything from new modes, new costumes, new maps, new weapons, to new characters. Now days more and more companies try to surgically cut that stuff out to be sold to us as dlc at a later date. As such I tend to feel like I'm not getting a whole product with many of the titles I pick up these days. (Though some nice exceptions still linger around to pleasantly surprise me from time to time)

In other words, I mostly am with you on this my friend.

A Little Game Called CalDun and CalDun x2 the Prequel to Legasista

Steam's little jrpg revolution has been good for me. I've already picked up Y's 1, Y's 2, Y's origins, and Y's Oath Of Felghana. I also have the first Agarest war which was more enjoyable than I thought it would be.

Don't know much about Mario Cart but my friends put a lot of time into the original on the snes,Cary! At that time I still preferred F-zero just because it had a cool futuristic motif. I loved the vehicle designs in that game.

Retro Game of the Week: Faxanadu

Faxandu must have been good otherwise Nintendo would not have aped off them for the next Zelda entry. lol. I like how the look of the character changes based on his armor. Back in the day that was a pretty sweet novelty!

That's very true,Chris! However like "Sweet Home" it kind of stayed in Japan for awhile. But maybe if you were savy enough and rom concious enough you could get some of the earlier entries through other means!

I know back in the day Nintendo was "family friendly" to the extreme so they probably thought bringing SMT to North America would tarnish their image a bit.

I'm glad Nintendo has a much better relationship with Atlus's flagship rpg series today!

Samus has rocket heels, someone do something!

Ah, it's okay to not like the heels,Alejandro! It's more of the sheer unrelenting passion fans are willing to argue over it that blows my mind. I mean this is really "serious business" for a lot of people on the internet. (Face to palms)

Even if the heels didn't click for me personally the most I'd say is "Not fond of the heels but Samus is still looking good and hopefully she is still kicking ass!"  After that I'd move on but y'know, some folks NEVER move on. lol.

Good question. I don't think volleyball was in Other M but breast physics might have been. However, this is Smash Bros and there's rumors a whole new guy or team is in charge of premoting and designing things for Samus now. (Other than Team ninja)

Truthfully I do not even understand why team ninja has a bad reputation. True, they created "the jiggle boob" but not all their games have been complete crap.

I really loved Madness Returns. I admit it is much more "colorful and vibrant" compared to its' predecessor but the story still seemed very dark and got especially disturbing towards the end. My only problem was there were not as many weapons as in the original. (But what weapons were there were pretty darn cool!)

I hope you will enjoy Dragon's Dogma,Kev. The game pleasantly surprised me personally but that's not to say it doesn't have flaws. Still,it's a lot better than a lot of capcom's other work of late! (Though in capcom's defense I was also happy when they released RE: Revelations on the other consoles. I found raid mode a lot more enjoyable than mercenaries!)

Thanks,Kev. Glad I was successful at somewhat emulating the vibe of those horror classics!

Can't comment on much. Only played the Mario Cart on the snes. At the time I liked it but for some reason I preferred F-zero!
