Cary's Best Video Games of 2014 SO FAR Awards Show!

I think the first Narnia book is required reading for a lot of elementary schools.  Strangely enough, i never had to read it for school.  I just read them on my own.  I would've loved to do a school assignment on the books, though.

Valiant Transformer Dragons 2

I keep hearing about Valiant Hearts from you people.  If I had more time I'd play it.

I want to see the new Transformers movie although I think the folks who made the Fall of Cybertron game should be in charge of the movies now.  They did such a good job.

I also want to see How to Train Your Dragon 2.  Maybe I can catch up on movies over the holiday weekend.

Oh, and you do NOT want to play the Dragon 2 game.  I reviewed it.  Trust me.

A New Obsession

I've never been disinterested in video games.  I've enjoyed them ever since I first played Pac-Man when I was five.

RETROspective: Video Game Cartoons--The 80s

Posted on 07/02/2014 at 05:02 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I watched nearly all those cartoons as a kid.  They were all awful, but that's all we had back then.

Pac-Man: I could make a whole blog about this cartoon.  Best part really was the voice actors. I have both seasons on DVD (you could buy them online on WB's store page for a while, not sure if you still can).  The video game Pac-Land was based on the cartoon, even if Namco tries to deny it.  Even though the show was awful, at least it was better than the new Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures cartoon.  Ugh.

Saturday Supercade: This show was awful, too, but I did like the Q*bert cartoon as a kid.  They would alternate between a Q*bert and Pitfall Harry cartoon every other week, and I would be so mad when it was Pitfall's turn.  Even though these cartoons were bad, I do like the fact they were just trying to make kids happy and entertained.  Oh, and Donkey Kong was voiced by the late Soupy Sales and he really got into the role!

Dragon's Lair: For some reason, I didn't get into the cartoon that much.  Maybe if it were animated by Don Bluth like the arcade game was.

Pole Position: Never got into this one either.  I think they just made a generic racing cartoon and just slapped the Pole Position name on it.

Mario & Zelda: I watched the heck out of these cartoons.  They were bad, but sometimes there was some funny lines here and there.  I loved how they played up the anticipation for the Friday Zelda cartoon.  We would so look forward to that as kids.  Link was very annoying, but...erm, I kinda liked Princess Zelda. :)

Captain N: Boy they sure did take some creative liberties with these characters, didn't they?  Sometimes it worked well.  I loved what they did with Mother Brain, even if every Metroid fan on the planet would cringe.  But sometimes it didn't work, like with Mega Man.  King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard were pretty funny bad guy sidekicks, though.  My friend and I were excited when they did a Dragon Warrior episode one time.

Dragon Warrior: And speaking of which, I never saw this one because where I live, the stations only showed it at like, 4:30 in the freaking morning!  As a huge Dragon Ball and Chrono Trigger fan, I would love to see episodes of this cartoon, too.

Good job.  I think you've covered every video game cartoon from the 80's.  Next time you should do video game cartoons from the 90's, like Mario 3 & World, Mega Man, Sam & Max, Donkey Kong Country, etc.  --Cary

Yeah, Level 5 made Weapon Shop.  It's not their best game.  In fact, a reviewer here at PixlBit slammed it pretty hard.  But I liked it anyway, which just goes to show you that there's no accounting for my tastes sometimes.

You need to get cracking on some of these other games, then! :)

I like weird indie games, but I could never get into MMOs.

Only reason why I played LEGO Hobbit is because I had to review it.

Yeah I just could never get into Lord of the Rings.  What's strange is that I really like the Chronicles of Narnia books and movies.  I loved reading the books as a kid, and even appreciated the Christian overtones (me being a Christian and all). LEGO Narnia would be neat.  I was kind of sad that they didn't make any more Narnia movies to finish out the rest of the books, like what Harry Potter did.  I never really got into Harry Potter either.  I read up until the fourth book and got tired of it, and stopped watching the movies after that, too.

We used to visit family in Alabama nearly every 4th of July, and since most of them live out in the country, we could buy and shoot fireworks pretty easily there.  We had a lot of fun.  Be safe and careful when you shoot off your fireworks!
