Microsoft aftermath: Why I'm not ashamed I was mad.

Posted on 07/01/2013 at 06:47 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I think you and I have come to an understanding, Broken, as we always do. I'd like to ask though, what were you most mad about? I'm purely playing devil's advocate here, which I always find helpful in any discussion. Okay, the used games policy was bollocks. No argument there, and I explained on NWP how they could have fixed that for everyone.

The 24 hour check in wouldn't be a thing if they did things the way I thought they should have, but isn't your 360 connected all the time anyway? I think the 24 hour window was crap. Having 72 hours minimum might have been fine, though.

The region locking isn't anything new. Current gen was the first time I'd seen it opened up so wide, actually. I used to play tons of imports on my PSX with the swap trick, but the PS2 was so difficult to mess with for import games that I got out of it and never looked back.

Again, I'm just curious to hear what people were the most angry about. I'm glad that they are deciding to compete on Sony's level this gen, but we're getting closer and closer to everything being like Steam. That's a bummer for me on multiple levels, but it's a road I'll have to cross when I come to it.

Honestly, the way you fine PixlBit members came to my defense was more than I could have asked for. I had a feeling people would be mad because I didn't give it a perfect score, because I remember Anthony Gallegos getting death threats for giving Uncharted 2 a 4.5 out of 5.

Still, it was weird to see people attacking me personally for a review of a game that I genuinely loved. It's not like my Hotline Miami review, which is a game that I loathe that most people adore. It probably would have affected me more, but if you go back and read anything I've written about JRPGs you'll see that I've been well tested with trolling comments. Thanks for this, leeradical.

Although for the record, I don't mind people commenting on my stuff, even if it's super negative. As long as I can tell that I've gotten my point across I can say I've done my part.

I almost used "cool story, bro." I was THIS CLOSE.

I don't want to speak for Angelo, but what I got from him saying that they nailed their core audience I think he was talking about the Xbox 360 owner that's been in the Live eco system for years and always has their console connected. They showed a lot of awesome, competitive and multiplayer games that would play to that base very well.

Yeah, I'm not telling anyone how to feel. All I'm saying is you can express those feelings in a way that people can get behind.

I have a terrible temper, and I can get as hot as the best of them. But I'm at the point where I'd much rather be like Jake "The Snake" Roberts, where the angrier I get the softer I get, to the point that everyone in the room can't help but stop and listen. Just a different way of going about things. And fear not, I won't be sweeping this under the rug, and I doubt most people will. This is the horse armor of the 8th generation. It will be brought up for years to come, especially if MS keeps disappointing, like with their "Games for Gold" offerings not being Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3 but some XBLA game instead.

I don't think that anyone who was angry at MS was "wrong". Their policies wouldn't have affected me besides being a collector, and if I had bought an XBO I would have done anything I could to get around the always on Kinect. MS should have gotten out in front of this and kept people from getting this angry.

I just don't see the need to scream about it. Again, it's a matter of tone, not of message for me. And I think you're mistaking my writing and this podcast as me supporting MS, or being happy at the situation. I wasn't happy about the situation, but the way I dealt with it was by pre-ordering a PS4. I have no plans on buying an XBO, and I've already pulled out of Live.

Now, if Sony decided to inact the same policies later on down the road you can expect me to get angry, because it's not something that I'm signing up for with this new machine, where at least the XBO was going to try and do it from day one. But I'll reiterate that this is going to happen at some point in the future, and when it does I'll most likely no longer follow the bleeding edge of video games.

I'm just at this point where I'm over it. I think it's immature, and while I love me some immaturity, it doesn't do any good when you're trying to explain to people that gaming is growing up and all the best examples of commentators are screaming into their mics and cameras. To be fair, I didn't watch the rest of the video as I said, but it's very difficult for me to differentiate between people with an actual point and people like that guy Francis. It's all just noise to me.

I'd say she has a problem, but I'm sure if you added up your total game time since she started DQ IX you'd still come out ahead.

If you're upset about something in the industry, by all means, be upset. By all means, get on YouTube and express that. I think this whole "raging fan" thing that people do is not constructive at all. If you can't get your point across without yelling or cussing you don't really need to be out there doing so. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.I have a persona I use for NWP, but I'd like to think that I communicate my points in a level headed way.

Little Mac or no sale.

I'm just kidding. I'm not buying this game.
