Capcom Reveals Massive News at Captivate 2010

Though E3 is just a couple months away, Capcom seems to have made all of their big reveals for the remainder of 2010 and into 2011.

Capcom fans have quite a bit to be excited about today thanks to the huge news revealed at the company's Captivate 2010 event in Hawaii.

The Vs. series will be receiving another new entry in the form of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. As one would expect, the title is slated for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and won't be available until spring 2011.

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 will be a sequel to the hit XBLA/PSN title that remade Bionic Commando, originally featured on the NES. Players will take the role of Nathan Spencer and will use the patented grappling hook to traverse new environments. Amongst the new moves is a jump mechanic, an oft-requested feature from fans.

Rounding out the brand new announcements is the reveal of Dead Rising 2 Prologue. The content will be released exclusively on XBLA before the release of Dead Rising 2 on August 31. The title will focus on Chuck Greene and will take place two years after the Wilammete incident.

Ghost Trick Phantom Detective and Okamiden were both announced for release in America. Okamiden, the follow-up to the PlayStation 2 and Wii title Okami, will follow the adventures of Chibiterasu, a young sun god. Fans will have to wait until an unspecified 2011 date for the release of the game. Ghost Trick, originally revealed at TGS 2009, will be available this winter on the DS.

In addition to the new releases, Capcom has outlined a number of DLC add-ons for Super Street Fighter 4, Lost Planet 2, MotoGP 09/10, and Dead Rising 2. Details on all DLC are available in the press release below.

Every part of this news is made of win, particularly Okamiden, MvC 3 and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2.

YES! I don't care if people thought the Versus games were broken, the fact that MvC 3 will be a reality next year is a mega, mega win. I want to see what they do with it since they have the great MT Framework and will have the producers of the recent fighting games.

Again, win.

I love the Versus games. I had a great time with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and I'm already excited for Marvel vs Capcom 3. I find my Wii the most accessible home console I have (There's one in my room, vs. a PS3 downstairs on a shared television with Chris and my other roommate), so I hope there's a Wii version of MvC3 out there. The art style certainly reminds me of some parts of TvC, so I won't give up hope on that happening.

The rest of the news was great, too. Capcom looks like they might have an amazing E3 presence this year. I'm excited to see what they'll bring to the show.

I doubt that there will be a Wii version. The fact that Capcom will be using the Mt Framework engine, which is an HD heavy engine, seals its fate. If they want a Wii version they would have to rework it to fit the console. I think there's a bigger chance of us seeing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom 2 than Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on Wii.

Agreed on that, Pedro. I don't understand why Capcom wouldn't aim for a Wii release using the Tatsunoko engine, but not releasing it does keep in line with this strong divide between the Wii and the other HD systems this generation.

It's a weird side effect of this generation, but an unfortunate one for Wii-only owners.

It should be noted that the original versus games NEVER hit Nintendo's consoles. Many of Capcom's fighting games went to the PSone instead of the N64, which was superior and could have handled the games better than the PSone. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was a Dreamcast exclusive, then it was ported to the Xbox and PS2, once again omitting the Nintendo console (the Gamecube). So this isn't anything new.

That's true... Still, I'm just glad I've got the means to play the game, regardless. I love the MvC games.
