Sony Reveals "Cross Buy" Initiative

Cross play may have just gotten a bit more relevant.

During today's Gamescom conference in Cologne, Germany, Sony released information about a brand new initiative that will start this fall with the release of its flagship titles. The "Cross Buy" program will allow players who purchase the PlayStation 3 version of a game to also take the same title on the go at no extra cost. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will lead the initiative, netting owners of the PlayStation 3 title a free digital copy for their portable Vita.

The Neo Geo Console Returns This Winter

Wait...what?

For almost a whole generation, the name Neo Geo has been lost to time. Resonance Review

So a scientist, a reporter, a doctor, and a detective walk into a bar...

The point and click adventure game—such a prolific part of PC gaming in the ‘90s—has seen a renaissance in recent years. A large part of that is thanks to the episodic releases of Telltale Games, as well as the proliferation of Kickstarter breathing new life into old IPs. But by and large these games are trading in on gamer nostalgia. You remember Leisure Suit Larry, don’t you? How about Escape From Monkey Island? While revisiting those classic games can be fun, there’s something to be said about having an original title that hits the same beats as those old adventure games. That’s exactly what XII Games has done with Resonance—a new adventure game that could have easily occupied shelf space right next to Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle.

Goin' out on a high note.

In just a few months, Nintendo's Wii U will push aside the Wii from store shelves, its memory will begin to fade from our gaming consciousness, and that little blue light will shine no more. With one last epic RPG The Last Story coming out this week, it's not a bad way to die.

Tour de 64: Daikatana

Speak loudly and carry a big sword.

As one of the creators of such first-person shooters as Wolfenstein 3D and DooM, the name John Romero should be familiar to any longtime FPS fan. His name certainly had meaning in the late 90's, as he would go on to form his own company and begin hyping up its first game, Daikatana for the PC. What started with a trash-talking advert and grew to three years of delays ended with such poor critical reception as to land it on the top ten list of gaming's biggest failures. None of this seemed to deter Kemco from releasing a Nintendo 64 version of the game, which appears to have been ported in three months. Playing the game, it sure seems like that's true.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD Review

They just don't make 'em like they used to.

There's little more important when creating an HD remake than ensuring you've at least duplicated (even better, exceeded) the functionality and feel of the original title. Apparently Robomodo didn't get the memo when creating Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, which represents a remix of the first and second game in the series. The HD "upgrade" is noticeably clunkier and more cumbersome, not quite matching up to the extremely fluid titles on the PlayStation, N64, Dreamcast, and Xbox.

Big Huge Games Gets a New Lease on Life

The embattled developer is now Impossible Studios

The video game industry and media watched with shock as 38 Studios and Big Huge Games slowly crashed and burned earlier this year. After shipping the action/RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning to solid sales and critical response the company seemed to implode. Epic stepped in and hired the bulk of the team that comprised Big Huge Games to open a new studio that would allow them to remain employed and living in Baltimore. Originally called Epic Studios Baltimore, the team has been given a new name and is already working on their first project for Epic.
