PixlBit: A Retrospective

With the 2.0 redesign upon us, Nick has a chance to look back on the beginnings of the site and just how far we have come.

It’s hard to believe, but PixlBit has been around for almost two years at this point. Having just released the second version of the site, I can’t help but get nostalgic and look back on our beginnings and just how far we’ve come.

Welcome to PixlBit 2.0!

After a few weeks of hard work, the face of PixlBit has changed.

It started with a menu. I wanted to provide a better means of navigating the site and seeing all of the content we were offering at the time. I had polled the staff for their opinions on what would work and had settled on a design. It would tease a variety of content within it and have a more logical organizational structure so that everything was within reach. Before long I had a working prototype, but something still wasn’t right.

Chrono Trigger Coming To Virtual Console

The classic will be available on May 16, 2011.

Square Enix officially announced today that Chrono Trigger will be making its way to the Wii Virtual Console on May 16, 2011. The game has seen release in both Japan and Europe already and was known to have been at least rated by the ESRB in America for release. As a Virtual Console release, the game will be presented in its unaltered, SNES form. A price has not been announced at this time for the title, but will likely be available for 800 Wii Points ($8). Square Enix has confirmed that the game will be available for 800 Wii Points ($8).

eShop and Internet Browser Coming to 3DS on June 6

A system update will allow players to access the new features, though they are coming a bit later than promised.

Yesterday night, Nintendo announced that a new system update will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS on June 6. This update will provide players access to the eagerly awaited eShop as well as Internet browsing abilities.

With PixlBit 2.0 somewhere on the horizon, it's time to put Season 2 of PB & Jason to rest. That's right. Season 2 is over. Over the hill, too. Join us sometime next week for the start of Season 3, which means absolutely nothing. Except PB & Jason might not be appearing on Wednesdays, anymore.

Tales of Graces f and Tales of the Abyss 3DS Confirmed for North American Release

North American Tales fans will get a double dose of the popular JRPG in the coming months.

North American Tales series fans won't have to wait much longer to get their Tales fix. Two Tales games will be making their way to American shores, the first of which is due out later this year. Tales of the Abyss 3D is a port of the original game, which released on the PlayStation 2 in 2006. Developers have promised that this remake will not only keep everything fans loved about the original, but that the game will feature fully remastered graphics that take full advantage of the 3DS hardware.

Soulcalibur V Announced

The next installment of Namco Bandai's tale of souls and swords hits Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012.

Three years after the release of Soulcalibur IV, Soulcalibur V was officially announced by Namco Bandai last night. Due out for a 2012 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the next installation of the weapon-based fighting series will return in all of its violent and chesty glory.

The Sims 3 Review

An embarrassingly bad handheld adaptation of the latest in the popular series.

After taking a hiatus from the wildly successful Sims series, I was fairly excited to jump back in with The Sims 3. Knowing fully well that the handheld 3DS experience would most likely trim back the offerings found in the PC version, I wanted to keep an open mind. Unfortunately, no amount of willingness to give the game a chance could have prepared me for the boring, sloppy mess I was about to encounter.
