Retro City Rampage Coming to PS3 and Vita

Bet you didn't see that coming!

Developer Brian Provinciano has revealed that Retro City Rampage, his classic gaming homage, is coming to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita today in a report by Game Informer. Some form of cloud saving between the two versions was also confirmed.

Tales of the Abyss Review

A decent port of a great game.

Tales of the Abyss tells the story of Luke fon Fabre, a boy who lives a sheltered life due to a kidnapping incident that he was the victim of as a child. After losing all of his childhood memories, he becomes a snobby and ignorant young adult. During a training exercise with his master, Van, a mysterious female attacker accidentally causes an event known as “Hyperresonance” which sends both Luke and his attacker to the other side of the country. Luke then learns about the conspiracies, wars and other events that were going on outside of the walls that he had been bound by. These events change Luke, and everyone that he travels with.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus Being Ported to XBLA and PSN

16:9 and online play will be added to the last generation fighter.

On their website, Arc System Works announced their plans to port their fan favorite fighter, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, to both PSN and XBLA. Originally released on PS2, PSP, and Wii, the fighter is getting a visual upgrade by moving to a 16:9 aspect ratio, while adding online play. Currently there's no known time frame for the release, but it was recently revealed that the game will be receiving an arcade port as well. As such, it's likely that Arc System Works is putting a large scale effort into the port and rerelease of the title.

PlayStation Vita Review

Home console quality gaming meets the handheld market.

Mobile devices have put casual gaming at the frontlines of the handheld market, but Sony’s PlayStation Vita is a newly bred handheld beast with the power of current-gen gaming. It would be good to ask if Sony’s hardcore approach amongst the current casual gaming boom is a smart business move, but that can only be revealed in the near future. For now, we can only look at the Vita’s technical specs to judge the system. With that in mind, the Vita is a console with a lot of highs and only a few lows.

January Sales Down 34% From 2011

No new games are to blame for the lame sales figures.

The NPD group announced that its January sales figures and consumer spending on video games fell 34% to $750.6 million in the US. Hardware sales totaled $324 million, down 38% year over year. According to G4, these are the worst sales figures since January 2004.

Modern Warfare 3 dominates online play while The Simpsons topped the XBLA list.

Major Nelson released via on Twitter the Xbox Live activity statistics for the week of January 30, 2012. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 continues to be the most played game online while the late release of The Simpsons Arcade Game topped the XBLA sales chart.

Tales of the Abyss Preview

Re-discover the meaning of birth, this time in 3D.

In 2006, fans of the Tales series were starving for more. Coming off of the surprising success of Tales of Symphonia for the Nintendo Gamecube were not one, but two titles in the same year. The first, Tales of Legendia went largely ignored for its odd art style and lackluster presentation. The second title was Tales of the Abyss, which seemed like more of the natural progression of what Symphonia had achieved earlier.

Final Fantasy X HD a Remaster, Not a Remake

The speculation has come to an end.

Ahead of Tokyo Games Show 2011, Square Enix surprised fans with the announcement of an upcoming HD version of Final Fantasy X. At the time, however, no information about the game was announced otherwise - including whether the game was to be a remake of the PlayStation 2 title or a remaster. Square Enix has put the speculation to bed with their latest announcement - Final Fantasy X HD is a remaster.
