We take a look at some recent titles such as Diablo III, and some older ones as well. Esteban also talks about how he finally gave in and played League of Legends (and you should too!). In addition we take a quick look at what’s in store for gamers in the future discussing; the Elder Scrolls MMO announcement, God of War’s heresy with adding multiplayer, and the strange amalgamation of PlayStation characters known only as PS All Stars.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is Confirmed Dead

GSC Gameworld is no more, but a new project rises from the ashes.

We reported late last year that GSC Gameworld, the developer of the popular shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was closing its doors, and production on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was ended. Then about a month later there was word that things were going well, and the team was back to work on the game. Well, it is now official: GSC Gameworld is dead, as well as the game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. It’s not all bad news, however, as the people that comprised the core team have started a new studio.

Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium is an MMO No More

THQ shifting to a single-player focus, over 100 employees laid off.

Financial woes at THQ have brought many titles being developed for the publisher under scrutiny.  While some titles have been scrapped altogether, other titles, such as the planned MMO Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium, have been “refocused” – changed to fit into their evolving new strategy of serving the hardcore gamer.

Aion Going Free-to-Play

The 3.0 Update brings a new business model

NCsoft's MMO Aion is going free-to-play this Spring. Although already announced in Europe, this is news to American players. The upcoming 3.0 update, entitled Aion Ascension, will introduce the new business model. The free-to-play model won't limit the areas players can visit or classes available, unlike most free MMOs.

Everquest Going Free-To-Play

The original MMO is going the free route.

Way back in 1997, Sony Online Entertainment released EverQuest and introduced the MMO to a mainstream market. It's been 15 years since then and a sequel has come and gone free-to-play, and now the original is following suite. Sony Online Entertainment has announced that the original Everquest is going free-to-play.

Guild Wars 2 Beta Coming Soon

Indications that the game will be coming this year also ring true.

The original Guild Wars made some waves when it was released by providing a rich and robust MMORPG experience without the financially restricting monthly fee.  The upcoming sequel looks to continue this tradition later this year, and while a select few were able to participate in the recently ended closed beta, Mike O’Brien, ArenaNet Founder and President, has promised that we should expect “progressively larger events.”

Don't Pirate Serious Sam 3 or a Giant Scorpion Will Own You

Developer Croteam has come up with an interesting way to prevent their game, Serious Sam 3: BFE, from being pirated. Some games use key codes, secure-ROM, or online validation. Serious Sam 3 doesn't use any of this.
