PB & Jason Issue 52: Wii Were Right!

In this issue: I gloat about being right about a Wii redesign and the drop of GC backwards compatibility.

Oh, don't worry, that's not all this week's PB & Jason is about, but it does take up a substantial amount of airtime. With it is talk of the recently announced Europe-exclusive PSP model, the PSP E-1000, along with a little bit of analysis of what it means to drop the PSP's wifi capabilities.

New Wii Model on the Way for Europe

This new model will have a few variations from the current Wii.

Earlier today, Official Nintendo Magazine's website was updated with a news story revealing a new version of the Wii console. This new console is quoted as being "streamlined," and will officially lay horizontally, lacking a vertical stand. This particular Wii will be released "before Christmas," and will be bundled with Wii Sports and Wii Party. In addition to the changes above, this Wii model will not include GameCube controller ports, and will not be compatible with GameCube games.

This week's episode comes in two parts, but the most prominent portion of the show is based around some comments made on the Today Show about men in their thirties playing games. Bastion Review

It's like ice cream in video game form.

In a world devastated by “The Calamity,” a mysterious and catastrophic event, we find the Bastion, a powerful and mysterious place, and namesake of Supergiant Games' XBLA title. With a small cast, the first acting as the avatar of the player in the world, and is simply known as “The Kid,” Bastion feels like something truly special in the video game world. Part of the reason is the second character Rucks, who doubles as the narrator. Brushing beyond his role for a moment, understand there are only two other real characters in all of Bastion; The Calamity appears to have razed all other human life in the kid's homeland of Caelondia. Don't misunderstand, there are survivors. Unfortunately for the people left, those who survived the Calamity are more of the angry, confused, enemy monster type than they are of the human variety. These monsters remain to assault the kid, but as he begins his journey through the Bastion, Rucks promises completing his quest will help to fix all of Caelondia.
