Are Online Passes enough to protect a convoluted games market?

With the recent controversy revolving around Kingdoms of Amalur’s (which is amazing by the way) day one DLC, people are in an uproar. Are publishers wrong for using these crude tactics to protect their big bucks? Or are we gamers simply idealists who refuse to acknowledge the video game industry as a business? Earlier, Xbox360Achievements.org showed a list of achievements for an XBLA version of The Simpsons Arcade game.  Since then PlayStationBlog.com has published an official release revealing that both it and Final Fantasy V will be free for PS Plus subscribers in February.

New “Retro Game Vault” section lists new PowerUp rewards for members.

Visitors to GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards website may have noticed a new section called the Retro Game Vault.  It would appear GameStop is getting into the business of selling classic games for reward points for systems dating all the way back to the Atari 2600.  There are even some accessories listed for future availability such as the Nintendo Power Pad and the infamous NES Power glove, which come with World Class Track Meet and Super Gloveball respectively.

Atlus to release the game this year for PSP.

Atus recently announced via press release and their web site that they will be bringing Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time to North American PSPs this summer.  This will be the “enhanced and expanded remaster of the strategy RPG classic,” which was previously available only in Japan where it is known as Growlanser IV: Over Reloaded. The game will be released both on physical media, and digitally on the PlayStation network.

Firaxis states the new title is already in the works.

XCom is a franchise that, until two years ago, many assumed was dead and gone.  In 2010, however, longtime fans rejoiced at headlines that revealed a new title was in the works.  In most cases, though, this excitement only lasted as long as it took to read the article under those headlines, which revealed that this latest entry would actually be a first person shooter instead of an overhead strategy game.  Internet outrage soon followed.
