Archie Comics who own the rights to Sonic the Hedgehog (20 years) and Mega Man (25 years) are finally doing a crosover of the Two, True, Blue, Bot, Bashers in a 12 part event for 4 months. To celebrate both the Mega Man franchise and the Sonic comics anniversary.

Previous Reviews

Issue 0: Prelude [here], Part 1 [here], Part 2 [here], Part 3 [here]

I've been behind on a lot of things so for this installment I'll do double mini reviews in the form of Good/Bad bulletpoints

Mega Man #25

Writer: Ian Flynn             Pencils: Jamal Peppers

When Worlds Collide Part 4: Through the looking Glass

Story

The Nefarious Scientists plans are starting to unravel and the Blue Boys are starting to discover what the rotten smell in Denmark is.

Good

  • Dialogue is sharp and entertaining
  • Feels like a complete episode
  • Seeing heroes be heroes and people being grateful is always nice
  • The Dr's continue to be entertaining
  • The Story starts to finally pick up
  • Mega Man takes a drink of "E", that's damn good "E"
  • You learn a little about Rock's Robot programing (think I, Robot 3 Laws)
  • Bass has a cool "Later, Suckas!" panel, smoking gun and everything
  • The Evil Variant is Awesome! And that's hard to say with that splendid extended cover with the whole cast!

Bad

  • The progression makes previous issues feel like padding
  • Though the art is still a good quality and panels are well done the action scenes from time to time feel stiff or not as kinetic as previous issues and it's a little sparadic

Sonic Universe #52

Writer: Ian Flynn             Pencils: Tracy Yardley

When Worlds Collide Part 5: The Advanced Guard

Story

Sonic, Mega Man, Proto Man, and Tails are in the dimention where their worlds meet and the base of operations of Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wiley. "It On!"

Good

  • Ian once again brings it, whether just exposition or trash talk it all feels right
  • The art is full on Kinetic
  • What i've may have mentioned before but the robot minions in the background always do something to make me smile
  • Sonic and Mega Man fist bump
  • The inevitable friction between the 2 Evil Egos is starting to show but it's playfully defused
  • There's a reference to an old Sonic issue with a character that strategically looks like Zero
  • Proto Man has an awesome "walking away from your fallen enemy with a smoking gun" panel
  • Combining Mega Man and Sonic environmental hazards are comedic fun
  • The last Panel
  • CHAO'S!

Bad

  • The art, my gawd, Tracy Yardley is better than this so much better, the quality is rushed and i am shocked personally compared to what he's done before.

Conclution

Dispite both Comics failings it succeeds in so many other ways, the story is strong and getting better and better! All the little nods to the games are present big and small which is a real treat for all us seasoned gamers or fans of the seies, Ian gets it. Jamal Peppers has done a great job for months but Yardley's first issue is not impressive I can only Pray he does better than this in future issues. Anyway S'all good!Cool

This is V saying "A'ma Megabuster cap n'yo ass!"

Lol evil bro fist. Sounds like these may have been mildly rushed, though, but if the story's going along well, it's all good.

It's only the sonic Universe Issue where the art is a messwhich like i said is unusual of the artist, But it's getting better each issue so i'll need to have faith Smile

Can't wait to get the trade paperbacks when they come out. I'm so glad that the MM comics are here to stay. Archie kept Sonic going through the dry years, and I'm really happy that they worked out the rights for it with Capcom.

Same here, the way the cross over even came about is remarkable in and of itself, once more Mega Man and Sonic (Is suspect) will be in SSB, and we may get a small Sonic like Toon/Child Link to match! I'm quite satisfied how things have progressedSmile

Well as far as I know, young Sonic only appeared in Generations, so I don't know if they would pick him over new Sonic. Since there are only going to be limited slots in this game. Such a shame, too.

I don't think I ever read a Sonic or Megaman comic.  I don't believe I ever saw a Megaman comic.  Those covers look pretty cool.

They are, and You really Really Should, they have progressed imensly from humble beginnings to a sprawling epic, Spawned from the Sonic SatAM cartoon. I don't know exactly where you should start  other than the beginning, trades are relatively cheap and Manga sized.

I started with the British Sonic anthology mags (they where Sonic adventures with other seperate Sega stories inside) and went weekly, i only have a few surviving one today, my brother who got me American comics as a kids made me aware the Archie even did them and i started collecting these in my mid teens when i could.

makes me wish I was still into sonic comics to collect this cross over event. Sad to hear that the artwork isn't as good as it could be. I like a good story but is it too much to ask in having some good panel work?

Yeah it took me by surprise, artwise the issues back to back have opposite problems, it gets better though.Smile
