It's been a long time since I've written a blog. I got overwhelmed with the large number of blogs my friends had written and that I didn't have time to read or comment on. Plus, I went through a long period of not gaming and didn't feel like I had anything to contribute. So I deleted 2000+ notices in my inbox and am starting from scratch.

This is going to be a short blog tonight, as I am wiped out. I spent the morning shoveling, and was the only cashier to show up for work for the closing shift.

The last couple of days have kept me busy with snow, shoveling snow, working in a blizzard, driving to a concert 20 miles away in a small snow event (I don't consider it bad enough to call a storm, but there were interesting driving conditions and an iced-up windshield to contend with), shoveling more snow, running a snowshoe race this morning, and settling in for a blizzard that started around 3:00 this afternoon and won't wind down until some time tomorrow afternoon. So more shoveling in my near future.

Another short blog coming in late in the evening. Closing shifts at the market throw my timing off, and guess what? I pretty much only have closing shifts! At least I get to do stuff with the pup before I go to work.

This is a quick and not quite under the wire blog. In my defense, I was trapped under a cute, snuggly, sleeping cat who couldn't be disturbed. So I entertained myself by watching High Noon while trapped. Great movie, by the way, if you haven't seen it.

No, this really doesn't have anything to do with gaming, but ask me if I care.

Because I have the nifty new toy known as my new-to-me PS4, I now need games to play on it. Most people recommend AAA titles which is all well and good, but I'm aware of most of those. What interests me most are the offerings on PSN.

A day late and a dollar short, that's me.

Recently, I posted a question in the 1up Facebook group asking if anyone had played Firewatch. I got back a lot of "it was too short" and "it was boring" answers. Then a friend who tends to like the same kinds of games that I do posted that she'd played it and it was one of her top games for 2016. So I took the leap and bought the game. And thoroughly enjoyed it. But it got me to thinking about what people look for in a game. Everyone has their own reasons for liking and disliking a game. I tend to go more for story-driven games and games that invite exploration, which is why I enjoyed Firewatch so much. The length didn't bother me, it actually meant that I had a pretty good chance of actually finishing it. And I didn't mind the fact that it was linear at all. Linear doesn't bother me. Games that do bore me are games that are pretty much just shoot the crap out of everything that moves (most FPS games) and fighting games. Yet I know people who love those types of games. And it's OK, just because I don't like them doesn't mean they're bad games, it just means I personally don't care for them.

I forgot today was the first until a few minutes ago. In my defense, I've slept most of today because of a migraine.
