I definitely saw a lot of movies in the theater in '97. I think I was going to the theater once a week on Friday's. It's always interesting to see a movie near it's release. The theater is packed and you get to hear the reaction of the crowd. It's pretty neat. Lately I've been seeing movies in mostly empty theaters late on a Sunday, and it's just not the same. Anyway the list is kinda long so I thought I'd just list my top ten. 

Didn't read much in '97 except for an article on which a book was written by Dave Barry. The book was Dave Barry's Book of Bad Songs. It was really funny. It called attention to famous song lyrics and commented on how nonsensical they were or what bad grammar they exhibited. Funny as it was, it kind of missed the point about music and lyrics. Often lyrics are chosen for their sound and how they fit well into a song. Sometimes they just don't make sense. Mostly people listen to music for the feeling it gives them - an irrational thing which doesn't often account for exact meaning or proper English. Still, it's funny to read song lyrics out of context.

Played a bunch more of Saints Row Gat Out of Hell on Monday. Mark and I completed another of the three tricky Salvation challenges. This is the one where you have to be a good flyer and pick up as many falling and rising souls as you can within a time limit. I learned better use of the "x" button for slowing yourself down and the left trigger for hovering. There's only one more Salvation challenge left and it's the hard one right in the middle of the industrial island where smoke stacks are in your way. We'll get it though. 

Don't think I read much in 1996 unless you count sheet music. Read a bunch of that stuff for bass. I did notice that George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones came out that year. I guess I gotta check it out since it's such a huge monster these days. 

1996 in gaming. Ah yes. The N64 came out. I didn't get one that year though. I was still mainly on PC playing shooters and strategy games. Somehow I also had a Playstation, SNES, Genesis and NES. How I got all that stuff, I don't remember. I had little money and had to have gotten them cheap second hand. It was the day of flea markets where you could get stuff cheap. My friend and I went to them most weekends to pick up anything gaming related. The internet ended all that. Thank you internet. NOT! Below is a list of the stuff I played most. 

Oo yeah baby, I'm celebrating 1996 this week. Here's just a few albums that I remember most.

I got totally obsessed with Saint's Row: Gat Out of Hell today. Mark and I played co-op most of the day. We beat the main objective and then began mopping up other challenges.

Played some Worms today because it came out in 1995 on PC. I wanted to give this game another chance because last time I got really fed up with it. I got into it enough to buy it on Xbox Live and play the tutorial and several of the challenges. Then I tried to find someone to play with online but no luck there, so I went back to the challenges and got annoyed by the A.I. always getting the perfect angle on me with ranged weapons. Shooting at range in this game takes a lot of trial and error since there's no guidelines or anything to tell you exactly at what angle to shoot. That's fine though. I enjoyed it enough to return to it sometime, hopefully with a real person to play against.
