March 2013 Recap

Posted on 04/03/2013 at 05:48 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I'd like to read that review of Jeanne d'Arc.  That game has been lingering on my shelf for years now and I've only played a few minutes of it.  Anyway, I'm curious to see what you really liked about the game.

That said, you've made more progress in your backlog than I have in mine.  It's just ironic that I finally figure out what I want to do, but I've been robbed of the time to do it as of late.

So, was everyone sitting around playing Four Swords Adventures with all the GBAs and system link cables?  I just find it humorous as to how much hardware was needed to play that game.  At least Nintendo was generous enough to package the game with a cable (I think Crystal Chronicles came with one, too).  Anyway, I think my favorite moment in that game was the stealth segment outside the castle; I got quite a few laughs out of that one watching my friends dance around the search lights.

Finally, it's strange to see PS+ giving out Vita games even if you don't own the system.  I know the services are integrated now, but it just seems odd getting access to a game you can't use.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Good luck!  Avoiding spoilers and conversations on a game of this magnitude is going to be tough, so stay away from sites like GameFAQs that have user discussions right on the front page.  That said, if you are worried about the game being spoiled, I guess you're still hoping to play it?  I know you had concerns over finishing up all the PS3 games you wanted to play first, but if the opportunity to play MGSV presents itself, will you'll take it?

By the way, I'm sorry I haven't been around all that much to comment.  The past few weeks have left me with little time to spend on Pixlbit, although I have been reading quite a bit.

MIA March Madness: Round 3 [UPDATE: VOTING CLOSED]

So much for ActRaiser.  Now I have no obvious choice to vote for in the final round!

MIA March Madness: Round 2 [UPDATE: VOTING CLOSED]

It's tougher to pick a favorite this round.  I mean, choosing between the charm of Lunar and the gameplay of ActRaiser?  Yeah, that's not an easy decision.  Also, I'm completely at a loss for two of the match-ups, so I'm going to have to think on them.

Intro--a hello from a noob to the site

Hello, Rejo, and welcome to Pixlbit!

I know how you feel about fleeing from 1up shortly after the closure announcement.  I did the same exact thing, both to find a new home immediately and to avoid a protracted departure.  Luckily, Pixlbit came with the highest recommendation for those of us looking for a tight knit community to be a part of.

That said, I look forward to reading your reviews.  I'll see you around!

A few wise decisions (New buys!)

I do the same exact thing after playing a lengthy game (or sometimes parallel to one).  I tend to do it in bulk, though, often time playing through two or three short games in a row before starting up another long game.

But, yeah, that's a good idea to get through Uncharted 2 before getting involved with Yakuza 4.  I suppose the game could be short if you plow throught it, but what's the fun in that?  Anyway, have fun with your new games!

Sonic the (8-bit) Hedgehog

I'm always amazed to read about 8-bit games that held their own against their 16-bit counterparts.  Also, this is the second time now (the first time was here) that I've read about the splendor of this port.  Ancient could have just given in to the technical limitations of the Master System and produced a watered-down port, but they went out of their way to make it play right (while leaving its own distinct mark on the gameplay) and to create new and excellent stages.  Too bad this version wasn't included on the Sonic collections from a few years back (only the Game Gear version was preserved), as I would have enjoyed trying this one for the refined platforming.

Rouge Galaxy A Explorers dream come true ( ps2 classic 4.5 out of 5 )

I'm such a shameful gamer, Rodney.  Rogue Galaxy - a game I had a ton of enthusiasm to play - has sat on my shelf for a few years now unplayed.  I'll eventually get to it, though, as I'm no longer buying lengthy games en masse like I used to.

The Progression of Gaming: Is There A Ceiling?

The absence of Battlefront this generation was a major dissapointment, which is only rivaled by Colony Wars failing to appear on the PS2.  To be completely honest, all I wanted out of a new Battlefront was more of the same with better online play.  Galactic Conquest definitely would have been fun with a large group of players.

MIA March Madness: Round 1 [UPDATE: VOTING CLOSED!]

Well, at least I'm with the majority on three series (Lunar, Onimusha, and ActRaiser).  Everything else though, I guess very few of us have fond memories for the Mutant League games or Bushido Blade.  Also, it pains me to see The Lost Vikings getting clobbered, although the game is quite old and Blizzard has done very little to remind people it exists (outside of a tiny WoW appearance).
