Nintendo could release a console in 2012 that outputs graphics at 720p, and it wouldn't be a far reach from profits for Nintendo.
However since this is Nintendo we might even have to hold on for an HD system from them for at least a year or two later than 2012. I think it's all going to depend on whether Nintendo's developers have found a new toy to play around with, and them wanting to share us with their fun.
