BaD 10: Today's Lineup

Posted on 02/13/2021 at 08:38 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I rarely stay with a game past the 35 hour mark.  In my opinion, 20 to 25 hours is a good length for a game.  The last two games I spent more than that were Breath of the Wild (65 hours) and Ys 8: Lacramosa of Dana (45 hours).  Of course then there's also Animal Crossing, but I don't want to tell you how many hours I've spent on that.

I'm almost finished with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which has taken me about 25 hours or so to beat.  And I just started Ys 9: Monstrum Nox.  It's the first big game of 2021 I've been wanting to play.  I'm enjoying it so far, which is good since this coming week we're supposed to get bad freezes here in Texas and I might be stuck at home.  As mentioned earlier, the last Ys game took me 45 hours to beat, so I may be at this one for a while, too.

Leave it to Taito to make a dedicated arcade fencing game.  I know there are fencing mini-games in some Olympic video games, but I don't think there are too many dedicated fencing games only.

I'm debating downloading Crystal Caliburn 2 on my iPad.  I played the first one a ton on my PC back in college.

Forgotten Gaming Mascots #11: Rocky Rodent

I thought you'd follow up Aero the Acrobat with Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel. I was all set to say something about Zero (more Mega Man X related), but then you do this.  WELL! :)

I remember seeing ads for Rocky Rodent in magazines back in the day and being pretty disgusted and disinterested with the idea.  How unimaginative can you get?  A couple of years ago I did get an off brand mini-console that has this game on it!  When I played it, it wasn't AS bad as I thought it would be, but it was still pretty bad.  Could Irem come up with a more unimaginative character?  Ugh.

BaD #9: Gladiator

I actually remember seeing this game in arcades back in the day!  I was blown away with how big the characters were back then, but the gameplay isn't very good.

Always wanted to review these games, but never did.  Looks interesting, but not one of my priorities.

Some of the pictures didn't show, so sorry if I missed something.

I would've liked to have played Looney Tunes B-Ball, but never did.

I love Mario Paint and it's one of the best SNES games.  I even used it to make school projects.

I wish I could've played the N64 Clayfighter game.  I loved the SNES ones.  That's a series due for a remake.

BaD 9: NHL 20

I would say that hockey isn't very popular where I live in Texas, since we don't get a lot of ice and snow.  But we do have the Dallas Stars team, and they seem to be pretty big.  I went to a Dallas Stars game once.  It was fun, but I had a bit of trouble grasping some of the hockey specific rules and such.  So I never really felt compelled to play a hockey video game.  Maybe if the Kunio-kun hockey game made it to the US back then, I might've played it since I was such a big fan of Super Dodge Ball.

NES RPG Utopia

I played the first Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy over at a friend's house.  We would take turns playing the game while the other would look at maps and beastiaries included in the instruction booklets, and sometimes even make our own maps.  I kind of liked Final Fantasy a little more, mainly because I'm a visual person and it was nice to see both your characters and enemies on screen.

I liked both games, but not enough to buy them to play on my NES at home.  I was just happy playing them at my friend's house.  But that changed with the SNES.  Once I rented Final Fantasy 2 (well it's 4, but you know), I was blown away and was really into 16-bit RPGs after that.

You know what?  I actually played this one!  I rented it once at my local video place.  And you know what?  I didn't like it.  But I was more into RPGs at the time.  I'm not sure if the sequel was at the rental place, but if it was, I probably wasn't keen on trying it if I didn't like the first one.  And I know that the spinoff, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel wasn't at the rental place.
