The Games of Super Mario 3-D All-Stars

Posted on 12/08/2020 at 08:50 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I haven't tried Galaxy on handheld mode yet.  I might take Mario 3-D All-Stars with me today and play it on my lunch hour to see how it works!

Good comparison about Sonic Team.  I feel that Sonic Team has a lot of good ideas, they just don't implement them in their games very well.

Yeah that rainbow carpet ride level in 64 is tough!  Sometimes when I'd play through Mario 64, I'd question if I really wanted to do that level or not.  Remember when I said I got all 120 stars in Mario 64?  Well I only did that once!  Not in any other playthrough of it.

My Top 13 PS4/XB1 Games

Yeah I'll have to write a blog maybe sometime next year about my favorite PS4 games.  I usually do that with a console once I consider it somewhat 'dead.'  But I don't feel like the PS4 is 'dead' yet.  I feel like I'll still get some pretty good PS4 games out of it this next year.  But I could be wrong.  Sony just does a better job at not abandoning their last console the way Nintendo does.  But that could always change.  There's nothing on the PS5 I want right now, except for maybe Bugsnax and I think that's on the PS4 as well.

I didn't get a PS4 until 2016 and I got it on a Black Friday sale.  There just wasn't enough games on it beforehand that I wanted.  Another reason why i got a PS4 then was because the Wii U was pretty much dead by then.  2016 was not a good year for me and Nintendo.

I never did get an Xbox One.  I have nothing against Xbox, in fact, the 360 is one of my top five favorite video game consoles ever.  There just wasn't enough on the Xbox One that I wanted to play for me to warrant a purchase, and about half the games I did want to play ended up coming to the Switch!  Like the Ori games and New Super Lucky's Tale!

I hope you get it for Christmas!  Yeah there's really no excuse why Galaxy 2 isn't on here.  At least I think so.

November 2020 Recap

As soon as I got all the characters and started working on the chapter 2 stuff in Octopath Traveler, I lost interest.  Just got too grindy.  I miss 16-bit RPGs you could beat in 20 to 30 hours.

My Media Scrapbook: 2020

Pardon my language, but 2020 has been such a shitty year.  I played a lot of the new Animal Crossing game on Switch.  I've been mooching streaming services off my brother Jeff so I've watched a lot of the Baby Yoda show on Disney+ and the Animaniacs reboot on Hulu.

Yeah Mario 64 is still my favorite 3-D Mario game.  But after playing 3-D All-Stars, I really forgot just how good Galaxy was.

Yeah a Zelda collection would be cool.  Just as long as it has a lot of 2-D Zeldas as well.  Those are my favorites.  Remember when Nintendo had that Zelda Collection pre-order bonus when you pre-ordered Wind Waker on GameCube?  Or was it Four Swords Adventures?  Well, anyway, that collection was one of the coolest things Nintendo did at the time.

If You Build It... - Sim City (DOS)

Posted on 12/05/2020 at 08:36 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I remember seeing SimCity EVERYWHERE in computer game stores back in the day.  I even remember the weird box art that looked like a steampunk Game Boy or whatever.  I never played it on the PC, but my friend had it and he'd print out his city and bring the papers to school to show me what it looked like, and I thought that was pretty cool.

I didn't actually play the game proper until I rented it on the SNES.  I didn't think I'd like it, but it was surprisingly addictive.  I never bought it, though.  Many years later, when the Virtual Console first came out on the Wii, Sim City on SNES was one of the first games out for it.  I remembered how fun it was, and I wanted to try out a Virtual Console game anyway so I bought it.  When I showed it to my brother Jeff, he LOVED it.  So much so that immediately after playing it, he downloaded the latest Sim City game on his computer, which I think was Sim City 3000 at the time.

Yakuza Like a Dragon: 7 Compliments and 7 Complaints

My brother talked a lot about an arcade, so there must be one, unless he was getting it mixed up with another game in the series.  I liked the one that had an arcade lady in a tacky outfit who helps you unlock Fantasy Zone.

Some of my brothers really like the Yakuza games.  Over Thanksgiving, one of them was telling me about the new one he was playing and that it had a lot of Dragon Quest references in it.  I just like all the SEGA arcade games.  That's all I'd do if I played Yakuza.

Well even though I don't like Sunshine as much, it's still a GREAT game.  Like I said, I especially like the vacation theme.  If you made a list of video games that really make you feel like you're on vacation, Sunshine would be right up there along side Go Vacation, Road Trip, and the first Sonic Adventure.
