The song of ice and fire series is far to large for my tastes right now. I have been avoiding the wise man's fear because it is 1000 pages.
Had I gotten to this earlier, I would have mentioned the crusader kings II mod. I have not played it yet, but it sounds like it might be similar to what you are looking for.
I figured that school was to blame. I really did luck out when it came to college, I got a really good scholarship and was able to live at home and commute. Had I not gotten that, I probably would have just skipped this generation as well.
To probably stretch your definition of optional I would probably have to say Legate Lanius from Fallout: New Vegas. Otherwise, I know that squaresoft hides a bunch in their games, but I cannot remember which one(s) I preferred.

I rather enjoy Colin Baker. The episodes that I have watched were pretty good, and I enjoy listening to his audio plays. I think that the big problem with his era has nothing to do with him. I read somewhere that the bigwigs at the BBC during the 80s hated the show, and did everything to try and destroy it. Either way, I have faith in Capadli. He is apparently one of the biggest Who fans ever.
I have not had to watch a single video beside the announcement trailer to know that I want this game. I am glad that it is finally coming out.

I knew that you said that you had passed on this generation of gaming. I guess I didn't quite understand that you had completely skipped it. I do remember getting an NES when the SNES came out, and getting an SNES when the N64 came out and a PSONE when the PS2 was released.

I would say that I expect half of them to fall right in with your predictions. The other half I expect to score higher.
That is a difficult one. Since I have not played either of them, I would probably get Ni No Kuni first because it is less expensive at this point. Then pick up Xillia if it drops over the next month or two.
