Octoberween 2014 has begun!

Posted on 10/01/2014 at 07:37 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I had ambitious plans for October last year and was able to follow through on pretty much all of them. I think it's the most blogs I've ever posted in a single month (outside of Blog a Day, of course). But not so this year. I've been too busy and haven't consumed enough spooky media to really make it worthwhile. But I'm looking forward to what you have in store for the month. Hopefully I'll be able to at least read it all, if not comment.

October is Sonic Month

You'll like it. I remember one really annoying level near the end but otherwise it's great. I wish I had had time to go through the whole thing again after finishing it. Having all the powers opens up new routes.

Sounds like a cool idea! If you have extra time after all that (haha!), you should play Sonics Colors for the Wii. It's really good!

Kirby's Dream Diary, Vol 2

It was an excellent send off for the NES. Kirby often graces an aging system with a great game (NES, SNES, N64, GBA, and DS come to mind).

Episode 54: You, Me, and the ESRB

I'll admit it, I thought this topic seemed dull before I listened to the show but it turned out to be quite interesting. I was especially intrigued by what everybody thought in the bit on age-appropriate gaming. My son is just two right now but I know I'll be dealing with this stuff before I know it.

John touched on one of my fears when it comes to game ratings. He was saying how NC-17 is basically dead because of being able to release unrated movies. I worry games might catch on to something like that eventually. Our industry has a bad enough image to the ignorant public (you know, those folks who don't need to know anything about a subject to have a heated opinion on it). I don't think we're close to that yet but triple-A gamemakers tend to be so obsessed with hollywood Undecided

Good show, guys, keep it up!

Retro Game of the Week: Card Fighters Clash

Posted on 09/28/2014 at 11:38 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Collectable card games are all but dead...on traditional consoles at least. They are actually experiencing a resurgence on mobile and PC/Mac. Hearthstone (a World of Warcraft spinoff) is the big one. I've actually played it a little bit (the main game is free to download but the DLC costs money) and like it a lot, but you really need to play regularly to get the most out of it and that's difficult for me right now. CFC reminds me of that in that you put out minions in Hearthstone but the game ends when one of the players gets to 0 HP. It's a really cool game! Some others that come to mind are Sol Forge and Nightfall.

Is that a Pocket Color or the original model? Did you get that recently? I've heard lots of good things about that system.

It's Dangerous to Go Alone: Let's talk Alan Wake

I have Alan Wake but haven't gotten around to it yet. Backloggers finished up FFX (which I didn't participate in) and I'm hoping Angelo will decide to tackle Alan Wake in October. He's been talking about it for a year or more now. I think I'll probably love it.

GameRig1UPdate: The Choice has been made

Sounds like a good choice! I totally agree with the "those games aren't out yet and I've got tons of cool stuff already" mentality. My wife is the one really pushing to get a PS4, actually lol. And congrats on the 3DS. I love my XL. If only I had more time to play it Undecided Still not sure what I'm going to do about the New 3DSes though...

Holding Court at the Doll's House

I think a show about Gordon could be really cool and seeing all those familiar characters so early on in their lives/careers has lots of potential. I saw a comercial, though, that showed an already active Selina Kyle...even though Bruce Wayne was still a boy. Man, she must be a lot older than him in this version Surprised

I came across that list when I started to branch out in what I was reading. It's how I discovered WE3. Not everything on there interests me but most of them do.
