Binary Domain, sexual misconduct, & undeath

In my opinion, the zombie genre is one that is oversaturated with works that don't 'get it' so to speak. I love the original Night of The Living Dead, and The Walking Dead because they delve into the human issues of how people would deal with the world falling apart without throwing in rape purely for shock value. Seriously, the world is gone, food is scarce, your loved ones are in constant peril, everyday is a struggle, and the first thing someone thinks is "I think I'll go rape someone?" I feel it's something using quite often simply for shock value, as it is one of the most sickening, depraved acts someone can commit. Whenever one occurs in a movie, that's my cue to go smoke a cig or get a drink - it's just too brutal.

Honestly, I feel like gaming gets attacked by the media simply because it doesn't have the lobbying in Washington that other industries (film, firearm, etc) have. The gaming industry isn't "playing ball" so to speak, so it will be the scapegoat for atrocities that it has absolutely nothing to do with.

A Case For MODern Times: Why Mods Should Be Embraced.

Posted on 03/07/2013 at 01:22 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Exactly - I could never understand why big gaming/entertainment corporations would shut down mods that are going to be distrubuted for free. Why infringe on that kind of creativity, especially when it can lead to really interesting and innovative things. Some of the Super Mario World mods out there are downright ingenious in their level designs and overworld maps.

I'm convinced most of the suits who make the call to squash mods are clinically brain-dead, only being jolted back to life with a cattle prod long enough to give a 'thumbs up' to signal the lawyers to attack.

Whats up Pixlbit?

Hey dude, welcome to PixlBit! I am a retro gamer at heart as well (especially SNES), and a fan of Retro Rampage - consistently hilarious and awesome, especially the Turtles in Time episode.

Jurassic Park for SNES (GRRAAAANNNNTTT!!!)

Posted on 03/07/2013 at 01:11 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Holy Shit...SNES Jurassic Park. I just stress-ate a bowl of Cocoa Crispies just reading this. This and Addam's Family Values were both top-down games that drop your ass, like Jack in the Pilot of Lost, in the middle of disorientation central. I will never forget those FPS level Raptors, that twitched like they were about to spontaneously combust before springing to life in 1 animation flat.

I think I have to play this again purely for the what-the-fuck factor!

From the 1UP Archives: 25 Years of Metroid

Super Metroid; my god that game is awesome. I played through it again early Summer of 2012, and it still is a friggin amazing game in every sense of the word. The ending infuses a lot of emotion into a game known for its sparse, foreboding atmosphere, and makes it all the more poignant. A bonafide classic, worthy of all the praise it has received and continues to receive.

And as BrokenH said above, this masterpiece was the blue print for another "best of all time" list favorite to come - Symphony of The Night.

Real life tragedy cutting into blog time but here I am!

I'm sorry for your loss, bud. If it is any consolation, an overwhelming amount of animals live brutal lives, and if you can give an animal a good life filled with love, comfort, and happiness than you did an amazing thing my friend, and you gave them a best life possible - that memory will never go away, and will be a constant source of happiness in life.

As for the whole "paint by numbers" corporate blue print of gaming, I agree 1,000%. Putting all of your budget into graphics is coming to bite 'Big Gaming' in the ass, and unless publishers come to the realization that a game needs to do more than chase hollywood blockbusters' tail, they have a major reckoning coming. The people in power at these publishers should be people who live and breathe gaming and its culture, and have a fundamental understanding and a deep passion for the medium, not a poor man's Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock.

Cave Story looks and sounds absolutely awesome, and I can't wait to play it!
