SNES Games I Love #3: Super Castlevania IV

Posted on 02/04/2020 at 08:29 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Like Darius Twin, I only rentd Super Castlevania IV a couple of times.  I was never a big Castlevania person, but I liked the SNES so much I was willing to give a lot of games more of a chance on that system.  The thing that impressed me the most about the game (and most SNES games in general) is the sound.  Very good music on the SNES!

SNES Games I Love #2: Darius Twin

WARNING!  A HUGE BATTLESHIP: "GREAT BLOG" IS APPROACHING FAST!

Oh man, I love Darius.  I think it's my favorite shooter series.  I first played it in the arcade, and while it was pretty standard gameplay-wise, the fact that it was three screens long (like the X-Men and Tecmo Bowl arcade games), made it stand out.  Darius also has one of my favorite video game themes of all time: the stage 1 music titled "Captain NEO."  Look it up sometime if you'd like to hear it.

So when Darius Twin came out on the SNES, I was very excited, but I never owned it.  I just rented it.  I was just a high school kid with a limited income, so I rented a lot of games back then.  Playing a game for a weekend for a buck was a lot more appealing than plunking down 40 or 50 bucks for it.  I remember when I rented Darius Twin, I beat it pretty quickly, which is rare for me and shooters!

I didn't know there was a Darius collection coming out.  Which suprrises me because I get Taito's press releases.  One of my favorite games in the series is G-Darius on the PSOne.  Have you ever played that one?  I've also played the newest Darius game in the arcade.  It's called DariusBurst and is four player with a long screen like the original.

It's hard for me to imagine Link to the Past in 3-D.  I could see Link's Awakening in 3-D more than that.  Speaking of Link to the Past, I sure did like the sequel: A Link Between Worlds.  I couldn't skip out on Smash on 3DS and Wii U because Pac-Man was in it!

Not a BaD Decade - Tales of Graces f

Posted on 02/02/2020 at 09:19 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I liked Tales of Graces f.  I felt it focused more on good battles and gameplay, which some of the more modern Tales games are lacking in.  Which is why I haven't played a new one since Zestiria.  One reason why Graces wasn't up to people's expectations is that it's actually a port of the Wii version that was only released in Japan.

I don't think any Tales game has that great music.  I mean, it's not bad, just not memorable.  But there is one exception.  My favorite Tales game, Tales of Legendia, has an awesome soundtrack because it was all composed by Go Shiina, my favorite video game musician.  I know I've talked about him a lot before.  If you want to listen to some really unique game music, listen to some of Go Shiina's tracks from Legendia or Mr. Driller: Drill Land.

Well the only game I played on your list is Dragon's Crown.  That was a neat game, though.  I liked the Amazon character.

SNES Games I Love #1: F-Zero

F-Zero was amazing back in the launch of the SNES.  I never owned it, but I rented it a few times and one of my cousins had it.  I did own Pilotwings, though.  I actually really liked that game and it was one of the few games I could get my dad to play.  I remember when we went to Alabama to visit relatives that Christmas and I brought my new SNES and my dad and uncles played Pilotwings until 5 in the morning!

Captain N's Games of the Decade #30

It's amazing how popular this game is.  There are even toys and Halloween costumes!  Like Overwatch, Fortnite is not really my cup of tea gaming-wise, but I do like some of the silly characters.

Who's Participating in BaD this Year?

I won't be doing BaD, but I'll certainly read everyone else's blogs.  I have a few blogs planned of my own that I'll post in February, starting with my best games of the past decade blog.  Looking forward to what you write, as the SNES is my favorite game console!
