Blake's Boring Life

1001 Spikes looks so great, I still haven't played it but it's the kind of game I think I'd like.

Welcome back to Halo 3

From what I've seen it's all unified, not splintered. All the campaigns and multiplayer stuff is all in a unified interface and you can switch between things on the fly and make playlists mixing and matching your favorite things from each game if you want to. Everything about it sounds amazing so far. Each Halo game is a mixed bag in terms of campaign level design so it's nice that you can pick and choose your favorite things from each and just play those if you like.

Unfortunately I'm on console for this playthrough. My PC is down and the laptop I'm using right now can't hack it. I figured console Fallout is still better than no Fallout, I love Fallout too much to complain lol. Much. The load times, Blake. Please god the load times, and every time it crashes I have to turn off the xbox and reboot the thing, with each step along the way taking a small eternity.

There's a twitch streamer I regularly follow that streams tons of Fallouts 1-4, and she's doing a playtrough of New Vegas right now with a variety of mods including the JSawyer mod. It's pretty cool. I'd like to see some more because I've only seen JSawyer stuff in regards to New Vegas.

Since Angelo and his wife like to watch horror movies together, and since I've learned a bit about Angelo's tastes through the podcast and social media, I have a horror movie recommendation that I'm sure wouldn't fit on twitter, so I'll leave it here for you guys.

Have you seen the movie The Awakening with Rebecca Hall? It's a British ghost movie that I think you and Mrs. Grant might like. It's a tale set in 1921, England, about a woman who travels the country debunking supernatural hoaxes and publishing reports with the intent of exposing frauds. The story begins when the author goes to a boys' boarding school to investigate sightings of a ghost child.

The story is fairly interesting, the atmosphere, set, and wardrobe are all fantastic, and the acting is quite decent. Also, there's no gore or monsters.

Gaming lull....le sigh....

The big difference I guess is that Dark Souls' combat is actually good lol. First time I ever played Dark Souls I didn't need a tutorial, I just experimented, died a bit, and got better. By the time I got to Undead Burg I was finally understanding the versatility and depth in the systems without ever being told what to do or how to play.

Witcher 2 has a certain style that limits you to a few spells and a stupid two handed sword scheme I prefer to never use in rpgs. So already the game isn't letting me role-play and fight how I want. In the Witcher 2 they have an entire hamfisted tutorial and by the end of it I still didn't understand the way they expect you to play. Parries are something you have to unlock once you get a few levels in, and once you get them they don't seem to work the way they were presented in the tutorial. None of it feels sharp.

I picked up Dark Souls and it made sense, it's well designed and works great. Witcher 2 doesn't compare very well. Not a terrible game, just obtuse. Great story, very pretty, it just seems like you have to cave into how the game expects you to play it, and then once you start getting a hang of it, it's still kinda boring.

Dark Souls is too good, once you've played it, most other games feels wrong. It has an acerbic quality to it, but it's incredibly satisfying from the first slash you give to an undead in Undead Asylum to the last hit you give to Gwyn. I'm several hours into Witcher 2 and have yet to find a single satisfying piece of gameplay, I'm just chugging through to see more of the story at this point. Story's fantastic.

Sounds like you're knee-deep in rpgs, Justin lol. Once I finish New Vegas I actually still have playthroughs in Witcher 2 and Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen that I haven't finished yet. I really don't want to buy too many new games until I can start knocking off these big rpgs I started and haven't finished. I still have a long ways to go in Witcher 2 I think, I barely started. Almost done with Dragons Dogma.

Oh yeah, I remember that article now! I've been coming across tons of power fists and melee weapons in the game. I have all the most powerful ones stocked away in my weapon chest at my home in the Lucky 38 or whatever that main casino is on the Strip. I should whip some of those power fists out and beat some raiders down.
