Playing Some Games

Posted on 10/22/2019 at 09:20 PM | Filed Under Blogs

In the Taiko Switch game, I like that you can play as Kirby and can play music from Mario Odyssey and Kirby.

Right now I'm most happy that I got a review code to play Doraemon: Story of Seasons.

Dragon Quest XI S just threw me a curve ball

If I played the entire game in 16-bit mode, would it make the game shorter?

Ah ha!  So you did break and got the Taiiko game.  Yeah, even though I'm a HUGE Taiko fan and imported many of the PSP and DS ones, I would never pay 50 bucks for a digital only Switch game.  But for 20 bucks, heck yeah.  I wonder if the PS4 version will go on sale soon?

Have you ever played the arcade Taiko game?

You know, a Metal Gear/Pokemon crossover sounds weird and impossible, but there have been Pokemon crossovers that were just as weird.  Case in point: have you ever heard of a popular strategy game series called Nobunaga's Ambition?  Well did you know that there was a crossover game with that and Pokemon on the DS?  Yup, it's true!  It was called Pokemon Conquest, and basically played like Final Fantasy Tactics with Pokemon, but apparently the famed Japanese dictator Nobunaga from real life history had a Pokemon partner.  Who knew?

The press release said that the new Puzzle Quest was a Switch exclusive, but they didn't make it clear if it was a timed exclusive or not.  Thanks for reading!

Dragon Quest TV... in the US

Posted on 10/16/2019 at 05:42 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I remember seeing the Dragon Warrior cartoon in our TV guides, too!  But our local stations only aired it at like, four in the morning!  So I never watched it.  If only DVR were around back then.  Yeah I could've recorded it, but who really knew how to program their VCRs?

One time when I was a kid, I spent Friday night at my friend's house and we played Dragon Warrior.  Then the next Saturday morning we got up and watched cartoons, and guess what epiosde of Captain N was playing?  It was the Dragon Warrior episode! We thought that was so cool when we were kids.

So when I read that Bandai Namco was having a sale, and the Switch Taiko game was only 20 bucks, I bought it right away.  The game is called Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun, by the way.  I'm a HUGE fan of the Taiko games, but I wasn't about to pay 50 bucks for a download only title that's just a straight port of the Japanese version, which had an English option anyway.  And it didn't come with any drum periphrials either.  I would've liked to have imported the physical Japanese version instead, but it costs over 60 bucks and that's without the crazy import shipping prices.  I never had to pay that much for previous Taiko games I imported on the DS and PSP.  Anyway so I'm glad it finally was on sale, now I need to wait for the PS4 version to go on sale.  So is it worth 20 bucks?  Well, maybe.  Since it's just a straight port of the Japanese version, all the songs are in Japanese, so I hope you like J-Pop!  Even the Disney Moana song on there is in Japanese.  I'll still play the heck out of it, but yeah, it's not worth 50 bucks!  So if you want it for 20 bucks, you'd better buy it before Oct 21st when the sale ends.

There's a New Machine at the Arcade - Kid Chameleon

When I played Kid Chameleon on one of the Genesis collections, it was better than what I thought it would be.  Just a fun little hop and bop platformer.  Nothing special and it ain't no Mario World, but not bad either.

September 2019 Recap

The main game I played in September was Link's Awakening.  I just beat it, too.  Now, aside from the many games I'm revieweing, I'm also playing a game where you get to be a goose, and a jerk goose at that.
