Ludonarrative Dissonance - A Fallacy of Storytelling

Posted on 04/17/2013 at 12:21 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I remember enjoying the original Bioshock and having fun but much akin to yourself with Infinite, I didn't understand all the hype it got. To me System Shock 2 was marginally better. (Even if it was also ugly by modern graphical standards)

I do think the Bioshock franchise would make a better rpg with many ways of completing objectives as opposed to it simply being an fps with super powers.

I'm sure I'll put in a lot of time with Duodecim. I already have decided it's a must get,Kev!

I would have responded sooner but I've spent periods lost in Ogre Battle. lol. Shame on me. I meant to start Jeanne D'arc first!

On The Edge

All I can say about partcipating in a 6th grade class room composed of all boys is that it will be character building. lol. Luckily kids tend to be better behaved when you're physically in their proximity. It's online anonymity that turns many boys and girls into complete trolls. Additionally, there is such a thing as "nice children". They're not all monsters. lol.

Honestly, I think you'll be fine Britt. It's not as if you haven't dealt with creeps before yet despite it all you keep on chugging along. That's an admirable trait.

I know how you feel with the anxiety. I have a bit of a diagnosed anxiety problem myself.

Journey (ps3)---I have no words to explain...

I hope the next gaming generation will bring more creativity and diversity to the table. This gen has been kinda bland for me though yes, occasionally I'm blessed with a  wonder of a gem like Terraria or Nier.

I've seen Journey played but sadly the experience is lost on me because I don't have a ps3. Frown

I have a psp though thanks to a friend. Life isn't all bleak!

In Defense of Mr. Fish

It's possible for an asshole to make a beautiful and engrossing piece of work. However, when it comes to being a consumer I rather not support someone who is a dick. Such people have a superiority complex already so do I really want to inflate their fat heads even more?

Still, maybe I'm being too harsh. Fish is welcomed to think Japanese games "suck" though it's been my personal experience games on the psp seem more experimental whereas many games on my 360 are generic shooters wrapped up in Hollywood triple A hype. Not all of them, but a very large percentage of them. (And hey, a game doesn't have to be original to be fun but I do get bored with having the same stuff pushed in my face year after year. Even a delicous hamburger starts to taste akin to bland cardboard if you are forced to eat one every day.)

All this being said, expecting Fish to fork over 40,000 just to fix a bug that effects a small minority of people is also ludicrous.

This is a man who built something grandiose by himself and though I don't like him I have to respect him. Beyond that, people have to accept indie game developers have smaller crews and limited resources. Bugs and minor glitches sort of come with that territory.

Should Fish REALLY have to fork over 40,000 to fix something he already worked on 4 years?! I don't think so. I don't want to drive a talented game designer into debt and into his early grave even if he is a jerk sometimes.

I agree microsoft should let Fish fix his own game for free. For all we know he didn't even make 40,000 on it to begin with. Gawd, I hate big business!

Remembering when Video Gaming was Simple

It's true. Gaming used to be a lot more "personal". Aka, friends would come over and actually sit on the couch. Still, I'm grateful for my online friends too.

I will say this generation hasn't wowed me as much as the gaming generations before it. In many ways I still prefer my PS2 over my 360.

I'm also moonlighting with my psp at the moment!

Uncharted and more

I don't have the means to experience Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 (Though there might be a psp handheld spin off of it I "can" get.) but I'm pretty excited about the new Tomb-raider!

I agree that there are so many shooters lately that they've lost a little bit of their luster for me. Uncharted 2 does seem to be a 3rd person shooter at its' heart though I'm sure it also has some puzzles and platforming.

Dissidia is totally a franchise that would do well on a bigger console. I find it strange it hasn't jumped to the PS3 yet. As for Valkyria Chronicles 2, thanks for reminding me! I'll definitely be snagging it up!
