First of all, I paid full price for the game when it came out and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. It is probably the furthest removed from the original games and even RE4 in terms of horror, it is more melee action set in RE universe. The thing is, I'm a big RE fan, and as such I appreciated the fact that they brough back the original characters, continued their storyline this far after all these years from the series and put them all in this big action, apocalyptic movie game.
I didn't really understand the backlash at first. I wasn't much of a fan of the action direction the games took, and didn't like the AI companion in RE5. There was way too much Gears of War, COD influence going on and felt it was made to appeal to shooter bros, less horror adventure fans. RE6 seemed to take the logical step into this action direction, and was surprised people panned it so hard. Not just journos, but gamers in general.
6 is more of a brawler at times, so it feels different in that regard, but those little stats that you upgrade at the end of each stage will make the game combat more manageable. Despite all the issues you mentioned, I still had fun playing the game, ridiculous as it is. I'm surprised you waited this long to play it? I remember your PS3 broke or something, is that why? Hope you enjoy the game. I agree, I am in the need for more of an action style horror game. I started playing this game again earlier in the year on PS3.
Sweet rig! I'm holding out another year before I build another PC, mine is still pretty good, and I've been mostly playing indie and retro games any how.
Are you buying physical books or digital books? You should just have a standard book blog on the side since all your books seem rather interesting to me. It's hard to get good curated book lists nowadays. There are so many god damned books out there releasing all the time, how do people keep up with all of them?
What are your thoughts on Preacher and Outcast shows so far? I'm still watching and enjoying both of them, although they are very different. Sometimes I feel like Outcast is more uncomfortable and disturbing than Preacher considering how violent Preacher is.
These two are more fun to watch though
Bloodborne is a pretty long game, as most of the souls games are, but having that agressive style for that much time felt overwhelming. It's not so much that I dont like offensive play, I love DMC and Ninja Gaiden, but those games are limited to short stages. Its a gripe. The game is enjoyable, but I still prefer the previous games for offering play options. Plus I enjoy magic and ranged combat too. I honestly hope they remaster Demons Souls or give us a sequel to that or at least a ramaster of Demons Souls.
Demon's Souls>Dark Souls 1> Bloodborne> Dark Souls 2/Dark Souls 3
Don't freak out about my list. I enjoy all the games tremendously, however, I really didn't like the speed and offensive style of Bloodborne. I didn't HATE Bloodborne at all, but I felt like it didn't do enough to seperate itself from Souls games and it was a bit halfway in-between something new and something old, thus I got a bit of dejavu with the game flow as I was playing it. I had the same issue with blood viles at first, but then I became really aggressive and was able to just stock them rather easily towards the end of the game, but I would have preferred the estus system. The lack of weapons builds also made me want to replay it the least of all the souls games. I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the game. It was definitely designed to appeal to me, and I would rate it higher for that alone, it is just a beautiful ugliness. I mentioned in the past that I enjoy the slow turtle approach to souls games, and being forced to play in one specific style annoyed me more than anything, which is the only real gripe I had with it. Again, I love all the games, but if we are being nitpicky and explaining ourselves, thats how I feel about the games off the top of my head. At this point I really want something new. I don't want remixes of souls games. I'm ready to move on to something new. Maybe Nioh, or that scifi souls coming soon.
I've only played Tales of Zesteria on your list and I thought it was very pretty and enjoyed the character interactions in the party. A bit like Dragon Age, except lighter tone. The combat has a elemental magic system, and it allowed me to take advantage of enemies weakness and get pretty far without really having to grind which was a plus. I thought the dungeons were pretty dull, and the boss fights were challenging enough to keep me interested. And I've never really played a Tales game before so I cannot compare to others. But, very pretty. Felt a bit like Xenoblade chronicles.
I'll take the demo code. I love castlevania!
I remember seeing Mario in 3D for the first time at a Mario64 kiosk at Target I think. Running around that castle and jumping through all those paintings was pretty awesome. I also remember Turok, Star Wars pod racing, Rogue Squadron and Star Fox with the rumble pack was quite amazing at the time. Also Ocarina of Time of course. I still remember the trailers for that game.
That's an annoyting part about PS4, no PSOne compatibility. There is a great Square Enix sale going on right now, but most of those games are only playable on PS3, or PSVita. I usually play PSOne games on my Vita.
I've played a lot of DA:I and was curious about the multiplayer. Have you tried that out yet? Its supposed to be seperate from the main game.
Take your time. The game is pretty long.
