Dabbling, Demos, and Dark Days Ahead. Part 1, maybe

I played more of the DQ demo. I think once I'm done with some other stuff, I will buy the full game. It's just too charming and gorgeous. They really knocked the presentation out of the park, equal to anything FF ever did imo.  I'm still waiting for that marriage of JRPG aesthetic and personality with the more tabletop simulation aspects of CRPGs, which is what I meant by saying it's too simple. Imagine DQ but it has (optional) detailed character gen (Daggerfall) branching quests with different approaches/solutions (New Vegas), sending your thief ahead to scout, detect traps and secret doors, pick locks etc.(Baldur's Gate).

Does it have a job system by any chance?

I would get Capcom Classics 2 for PC...if Strider had the revision 2 soundtrack. But it's ported from the original board, which repeats the level 1 theme in levels 3 and 5. BUT it has Super Turbo, and I want that in some form. Although I'm a big SF Alpha/Zero fan, I have to say that they've never topped SSFT overall.

I've already spent every night this week on the Song of Syx demo. Half that time was figuring out how to do stuff, granted.  It's in Early Access, btw.

Genshin is fun to watch. I'll probably have to settle for that as I won't be able to make time to play it for a while.

The PS2 emulator does not agree with my laptop, even though it can run The Witcher 3 fine. Had sound issues on CCC2, and slowdown in Viewtiful Joe.

It looks like a big one. Not sure I'll have time either. Too many games.

I played Genesis Strider alot...but only beat it once....using an invincibility cheat lol. I'm thinking of having a Month of Strider, where I play every version I can, including the Metroid-esque NES and Double Helix games. It's cool to see all the little differences in various ports, like PC Engine one having extra little cutscenes and voicework, and a reworked, more dramatic soundtrack.

Viewtiful Joe Part 1

Like I said, underrated, top rank action game. Deserves to be talked about in the same breath as God Hand, Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, etc.  I think I'm going to play this soon. Been trying to decide on an character action game or side scroller to play alongside the the strategy/simulation games I'm normally into these days. VJ takes care of both.

May is Replay Month!

Viewtiful Joe was cool as shit. I think the first game being GC exclusive doomed it's exposure and stature. It should have been a much popular series than it was.

A classic RPG, the way it was meant to be played.

Didn't play this particular SaGa, but I've had a high opinion of the series since Final Fantasy Legend, the orignal SaGa game. They are JRPGs with a mechanical density that old school CRPG fans can, and often did, get into. The Romancing SaGa 3 'remaster' was also well done.

Some New Games I'm Starting

Ultima 4 is a turn based, open world game. Not many choices on consoles for that. Maybe Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2.

In Praise of World Maps

Always liked world maps, or "overworlds" as we also called them. More efficient travel without needing fast-travel. Developer doesn't have to worry about filling every square foot of map with content, art assets, etc. Although I'd take a best of both world approach with an overworld and a full scale world that you can switch between.
