The five volumes of Namco Museums on the PSOne is one of my top five favorite games of all time (Yeah I know it's five games, not one, but it's my list and I can do what I want). So I have a lot of things to say about the Namco Museums. I could make whole blogs on them, and I have in the past on 1up.com.
Namco Museum vol. 2 was one of the reasons why I got a PlayStation in the first place, because it had Super Pac-Man on it. I loved how you could walk around a museum because it was very similar to a childhood idea I had of making an arcade with themed rooms based on the game series, like a Pac-Man room. Seeing my idea come to life in a game was very cool. These games also helped me rekindle my interest in learning about classic Namco games, and these museums helped shape the gamer I am today.
In response to your blog, did Activision make a compilation for the PSOne? I only remember Activision Anthology for the PS2. That was one of the only collections I feel rivalled the Namco Museums.
There is actually a LOT of differences between Rally-X and New Rally-X. The new one has better graphics and music, better gameplay, and more cars do show up as you play. Did you know that when Namco first showed Pac-Man and Rally-X in arcade shows, everyone said Rally-X would be the bigger hit? Boy were they wrong!
I was also pleasantly surprised with Bosconian, as I had never played it before. The reason why it's not as common is because it uses the same arcade board as Galaga, so most arcade owners could easily change it to the more popular game in the cabinet. Bosconian had a sequel in Japan called "Blast Off," but it was just a regular vertically scrolling shooter. Bosconian ships can be seen in other games like Galaga '88, though.
ToyPop was the only game on this collection not released in the US. Did you know that ToyPop and Wonder Momo were the last arcade games from Namco that used an 8-bit processor?
I thought there was a way to exit a game and go back to the museum, but I forget how to do it. You can download all five of the Namco Museums on PSN, though. I wish we could've got the sixth volume, Namco Museum Encore, though. Oh well. I could go on and on about the Namco Museums, but I'll stop for now. I really do love these games, as you can tell. --Cary
