Next-Gen and Used Games: The Real Issue

Posted on 04/07/2013 at 02:41 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Yep. Disastrous launches guarenteed if "always online" required next gen. I hope console manufacturers tread very very carefully and wait a few gens before implementing this. It's going to happen eventually so I've accepted it but I'd rather it be a success when brought in than the companies failing and being forced to pull out of the industry. If this happens than we the gamer lose

Yeah I agree. Someone who buys every year only games like Madden and CoD day 1 for the online play is not going to be impacted. It's everyone else who buys a lot of games and waits for lower pricing who suffers. These companies are following the $$$, as simple as that. Why cater for used game buyers when it doesn't help you? I can't say I blame them but it sure as hell sucks ass

I can see Activision and EA especially pushing this. Makes business since for them as far as their concerned i would guess. They already have some of the biggest franshises with large fanbases so people will pay. I'm sure Capcom would have an interest in this also. I agree with you that whether it be implemented by the console or the game developer, online play for games purchased used is done...

Yeah Ni No Kuni is on my wishlist at the moment. I'm going to wait for a drop in price so i'm thinking i'll prob end up buying in the next 6 months. 56 hours is a nice length of time as far as i'm concerned. Anything over that for me begins to get tedious for a lot of games

haha yeah I could never figure out why they let Yoshimitsu, a man with a sword for freakin sake, participate in Tekken. Pour tournament organizers I say. Then again, they do let Heihachi and his offspring partticipate and they have god damn electricity flowing through their bodies. This of course is in addition to a panda fighting so I guess any issue I may have is invalid.....

That was Tekken 3 I believe. He was such a cheap character in that game. A lot of fun to use but my friends and I had an unspoken rule that none of us would pick him because you could just mash the kick buttons and he'd start spinning on his head and whatnot haha

Yeah not allowing used games would suck but its not a massive deal breaker for me. I do buy used at times but as long as they drop game prices a few months after release (like what happens now), I could live with it. Always online would lead to so many issues it would be just plain comedic to watch (from the outside of course) at launch. IMO there is no hope it would kick off without a hitch and you know that would lead to a bundle of lawsuits against Microsoft. For their own good, console manufacturers really need to wait a few generations down the line before they implement this. Global internet access just isn't where it needs to be yet
