Looking for help with an upcoming PixlBit feature

Posted on 04/09/2013 at 05:04 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Well, I guess you could update your game library and I (and everyone else) can sift through it for ideas.  That way I won't be shooting in the dark and throwing several hundred titles your way.  Anyway, I'll try to be careful with the niche games I recommend.  I've played a few that offered no redeeming qualities (like Valhalla Knights and Dungeon Explorer, both for the PSP), and you will never see me mention them unless it's to talk someone out of playing them.

I really hope they address that for Project X ZoneNamco X Capcom had the same trouble, which makes me nervous that the gameplay will remain relatively unchanged.

That's great to hear!  I guess as long as they don't break the bank (and Drakengard 2 should not), anything is fair game.  Also, about Black Sigil: sometimes I recommend unpopular and/or niche games.  That's what I spend most of my time playing, in an attempt to see if these games are worth our time (and then to write about it), so I'm always trying to get others to play them to gather more opinions.

Ah, so that's not your entire library listed.  Perhaps you have something like Ys Seven or Gurumin hanging around?  How about Suikoden Tierkreis or Avalon Code?  Maybe Dungeon Siege III or War in the North?

So, did you enjoy your time with Endless Frontier, or was the criticism towards the game (like overly long enemy encounters) valid?

Finally, I had a blast with Metal Warriors' multi-player mode back in the day, too.  I may not have ventured far into the campaign, but with such an enjoyable extra mode I didn't care.  Anyway, Metal Warriors is a bit of a rarity these days in terms of discussions and availability.  It had a small print run similar to Ogre Battle, which means many gamers missed out on it.  I'm hoping to get around to it soon to see if it's worth it for others to seek it out.

Jeanne d'Arc REVIEW

Believe it or not, I'm going to have some free time again very soon, which I'll use to write and contribute to the site.  I made a great deal of promises back at 1up in regards to future posts, and now it looks like I finally be able to make good on them.  So, I guess you can expect to see something from me in the next few days (I'm just waiting for some games to come to the house) that will get the ball rolling.

Next-Gen and Used Games: The Real Issue

If Sony and Microsoft were smart, they would do well to distance themself from an absolute solution.  Leave the system open and flexible, like it is now, just in case there is a fallout over harsh DRM practices and a downturn in the sales of new games. Let the individual companies decide on their own if they want to be a product- or service-based business, and let them deal with the consequences.

I'm working on that.  I'm nearing the end of my Strikeforce playthrough and I will need to pick something else to play soon.  I'm liking the sound of Jeanne d'Arc being the opposite of Disgaea's grind-a-thon, which means I'll be able to just focus on the gameplay without worrying that I'm underleveled.

Anyway, I think my PSP is ready to come out of hiding.  I haven't touched it in ages (Dragon Quest IX will do that), and this might be the best opportunity to start using it again.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to take down Tyson again.  While you still need the reflexes to win the fight, there is a rhythm to his puches that make it easier for you to dodge and counterattack.  It will just take some time to sort it out.  Then again, you probably already know that, as you've played more than enough NES games to know how much practice is needed to finish a tough game.

As for Ghosts'n Goblins, there is that one speed run that is quite ridiculous.  Outside of knowing when each enemy would appear, there were plenty of intentional hits to bypass obstacles and enemies.  I mean, that player dominated the game in every possible way and showed just how short it could be.  Still, congratulations on finishing both playthroughs.  While you question the game's brutal reputation, you're still required to invest quite a bit of time, energy, and patience to see it through to the end.

I can use all the encouragement I can get!  Of course, I do have some of the games you mentioned in my own backlog, like Eternal Sonata (haven't touched it yet) and Blood Omen (played on and off for a decade), and I wouldn't mind seeing those covered.  As for other recommendations, I guess it all depends on what you have on hand in your collection.  While I would like to see something like Drakengard 2 (now that the third game was just announced) or Black Sigil, I'm not going to send you off picking up games to add to your own backlog.  That said, after looking over your game collection, I can see some potentially interesting topics (I'm assuming games without ratings have not been fully completed).  I see that you have Nostalgia, Mega Man ZX, Mega Man ZX Advent, and Endless Frontier for the DS, Skies of Arcadia Legends for the GCN, and Vanquish for the 360.  Any of those would be interesting games to cover and I wouldn't mind hearing extra opinions on them.

Glad to see you're contributing on Pixlbit now.  As always, I'll keep my eyes open for your new reviews.

That said, it's crazy to think just how many games you bought over those few years.  And you still have a ways to go before you're done, thanks to all those rare and expensive games lurking about!  Still, I wish you the best of luck towards acquiring the rest.  By the way, do you have DuckTales 2?  I had no idea that game was so expensive.

It was definitely the skill system that piqued my interest in this game.  Between the skill crafting and flexible customization, it offers so many ways to approach each fight.  I also remember reading about special skills found in the field of battle that you had to search for.  With the limited number of turns you have for each fight, I guess it could tricky collecting them all.

MIA March Madness: Championship Round [UPDATE: VOTING CLOSED]

I was really hoping to see ActRaiser here, as it would have given me a clear choice to vote for.  Anyway, I cast my vote for Legacy of Kain in its place.
