PixlBit's 2015 Game of the Year Awards!

As 2016 is here, our staff looks back to our favorite games of 2015. WAY back!

Number 1

Rare Replay

By Casey Curran

Rare Replay wins our number one pick because it represents everything-both good and bad- about video games. It’s Perfect Dark, the first person shooter which every other shooter aspired to be, but also Perfect Dark Zero the follow up that demonstrated how far behind the times the company was. It has Banjo-Kazooie, the game many of us knew every secret to just like our four other video games we spent all of our time playing, yet it has Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts which many of us never even finished because of our jobs, lives, and pile of other games which distracted us. It contains Conker’s Bad Fur Day, a deceptively mature title many children wished they were old enough to enjoy its violence and toilet humor along with Viva Piñata, which many adults wish they owned as children when they would have appreciated it more.

Rare Replay does not win for its variety or nostalgia alone, but because of its place in gaming history. As we look forward into the future, it is also important to look back and see if there is anything we left behind and whether these ideas are worth bringing back. To own an Xbox One without Rare Replay is like owning a Nintendo 64 without any of Rare’s games.

That's totally different than my list, which you can check out here.

I'm thinking this article would've been better served by a trollface as its image instead.

because all of these are remasters, or collections?

What about original games that came out this year? Can we get that article?

What do you mean? The only good games come out in the past. We need to celebrate rereleases as much as we need to celebrate "new" Nintendo games.

Well there is certainly a variety of tastes on this list. I certainly loved Scholar of the First Sin, and I'm playing Grim Fandango for the first time on PS+, and I'm experiencing it for the first time, and it is a rather lovely, funny game. I think I can learn to love it.

I didn't know this was going to be the "Game of the Year" article.

I loved Gat Out of Hell. I played it on Xbox 360 with online co-op, and I think it crashed maybe once. Otherwise it seemed to run fine. I'm worried about Saints Row IV now though. Maybe I'll get the PS4 version when I get to it.

I played some Grim Fandango on my Vita. I missed a clue on the computer in the main characters's boss's office because I couldn't see the screen clearly enough. I want to play it again on PS4 so I can see everything.

I got Uncharted Collection. I think I'll play Uncharted 3 there. Also Rare Replay which I haven't touched yet.

This ... is actually a great list for someone like me who's played none of these but is interested in all of them.
