After bug fixing delays, Dead Island's first dose of DLC finally arrives.
Dead Island didn’t have what you’d call an ideal launch. The game was released with some significant bugs that hampered some gamers’ ability to progress, especially on the PC, which in turn resulted in Techland delaying the first planned dose of DLC as they elected to spend the time smoothing out the game’s many issues. After the release of last week’s patch it seems that Dead Island may finally be getting on track as further evidenced by the announcement that the delayed DLC will be going live next week.
The DLC, called Bloodbath Arena, will be provided free to anyone who pre-ordered the Special Edition of the game and will be available to everyone else for $9.99 on the PSN/PC or 800 Microsoft Points. The addition consists of four new arenas for single-player or co-op play and plays an awful lot like the “horde mode” from Gears of War (which is quickly becoming standard), in which players face wave after wave of increasingly difficult zombies. As a bonus, any XP, items and money that are earned in the arena can be transferred over to the single player campaign.

Anyway, we wanted to let you know that FINALLY the DLC gods have smiled upon us and we have a release date for Dead Island Bloodbath Arena to share with you! It was a joyous occasion when this release date came about - a thing of legend, really. Zombies worldwide actually stopped what they were doing, I mean literally right in the middle of devouring hypothalamuses (hypothalami?) and all, and started dancing the Mamushka, Addams Family style.
So what is this Bloodbath Arena, you say? It's a pack of four arenas that can be played either alone (srsly?) or in up to 4 player co-op with waves and waves of zombies hunting you down for their next meal. :D On top of that, all the XP points, items and gold that are gathered while playing in Bloodbath Arena can be carried back over into the main game campaign. Oh, and of course for ultimate zombie killing bragging rights, there will be leaderboards with Bloodbath as well, so that you can be like me and go around talking shit about how you are THE best Dead Island player in the universe and then check the leaderboard and get a massive gunshot right to the temple when one of your friends has a score that you have NO idea how the fuck he got it but you and your ego are tremendously irritated about it regardless.
So I know you can't wait for this! Bloodbath Arena will be released on November 22 - next week! - and will be available as a free download with the token included for those who preordered the Special Edition from GameStop or for $9.99/800MSP to folks who didn't preorder the Special Edition.
