The Witcher Developer Speaks Out Against Piracy

CD Projekt RED stops their actions against pirates, but wants gamers to take a stand.

Piracy is the bane of the video game industry. Various companies have tried different ways to combat piracy, from the complex instruction manuals in old PC games to Ubisoft’s controversial DRM that requires their games to be online at all times, regardless of if the game is multiplayer or not. CD Projekt RED, developers of The Witcher series, have taken a firm stand against DRM, but that shouldn’t imply that they turn a blind eye to piracy. That had caused them to try a pretty drastic measure, but today, the company has backed down.

Reports of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2's demise have been greatly exaggerated?

We’ve reported on some sad news in the video game industry as of late. From massive layoffs to full-on studio closures, the past couple months have been pretty rough for some game makers. Thankfully, it’s not all bad news, and we can report today that at least one of those stories has a bit of a happy development. You may remember our report not too long ago about the studio closure of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World. Well, it seems like that’s not entirely the case, after all.

Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition Gets Release Date, Gameplay Details

It's okay, we all thought it was a joke at first too.

When a trailer was released for Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition there were many that may have thought that Nintendo was putting them on, but amazingly enough this pairing of Pokemon and samurai is quite real and a Japanese release date and some gameplay details have bubbled up.

Microsoft's TV Plans Suspended

The long rumored service seems to be in limbo for now.

We've been hearing rumors about Microsoft's plans to offer TV service through the Xbox 360 for a while now. However, it appears that those plans have been put on hold. Reuters is reporting that according to "people familiar with the discussions," Microsoft is currently stuck in a holding pattern.

UFC Rio Free Over Xbox Live

Those affected by the problems during UFC 141 will get the event for free.

The Xbox 360's inaugural event for its new UFC app didn't go so well. UFC 141 was plagued with issues and connection problems. To rectify this, as a good will gesture, Microsoft will offer this Saturday's Pay-Per-View fight, UFC RIO: Aldo vs. Mendes, for free over Xbox Live.

2K Sports $1 Million Dollar Contest Returns

2K Sports announced today its plans to bring its $1 Million Perfect Game Challenge back for a third consecutive year. This time, however, a competitive eight man tournament will determine the winner. Bethesda to Address PS3 Lag Issues in Skyrim

The 1.4 patch is on the way to save the day.

While the PC and 360 versions of Skyrim have benefitted from the recent patches, the PS3 version has been plagued by terrible lag issues. This is due to a memory problem where lengthy save files basically weigh the game down, causing it to chug drastically. However, PS3 owners can finally start to rejoice, as help is coming later this month.

The video game industry is a volatile one, especially around this time of year. As projects wrap up, layoffs are common. However, the recent collection of layoffs is rather shocking, with many people having lost their jobs in rapid succession.
