PB & Jason Issue 29: Viewtiful!

This issue of PB & Jason is brought to you by the letters M, V, and C. That's a roundabout way of saying I talk about Marvel vs. Capcom 3 some more in today's podcast. In addition, there's a brief bit about the "Anonymous" troll who chose to talk about my Marvel vs. Capcom 3 review, because why not?

MindJack Review

Freejack would have made a better video game.

I was very intrigued when I first read about Mindjack and jumped at a chance to review it. A sci-fi third person shooter where your main character has the ability to “hack” into anything that has a mind or computer, as well as the ability to jump into anybody else’s game seamlessly and either help or hinder them sounded like something that could be an amazing experience if executed correctly. It’s those ifs that always get you, though. Mindjack, while having a unique and intriguing premise, fails completely in its execution.

A Question of Morality: Console Hacking

The recent mess involving Sony, the PS3, and root key hackers brings the issue to the forefront.

If you haven’t heard the news already, the PlayStation 3 has been hacked. Typically, this kind of news isn’t really at the forefront of game websites, as most gamers aren’t hacking their consoles, nor do they have any interest in doing so. However, this time, Sony has drawn an unbelievable amount of attention to the issue since their home console has been hacked. Sony has systematically sued every hacker involved with the discovery and release of the root key. Additionally, Sony has taken it one step further and has gone about subpoenaing Google via YouTube for the information of users who commented on any videos related to the hack.

Super Mario You-Again

Been There, Done That... Where's My T-Shirt?

The Classic Mario games are legendary. Some young gamers' first gaming experience was one of the Super Mario games of old. For me the NES original was the one that unlocked my joy. Super Mario Brothers 2 was rented in my house with the system at Blockbuster. Number 3 was the first game I ever owned myself. These games were a formative part of my youth and they hold a special place in many hearts. When Super Mario All-Stars was first released on the SNES, I was amazed at the graphical improvements, pleasantly surprised to hear Mario Brothers 3 had intro music, and I was in awe of the difficulty in "The Lost Levels". I never owned the game because I still had the classic games and later when a version of All-Stars was released with Super Mario World, I also passed on the collection.
