Scott Pilgrim vs. Jason Ross

Jason gives his spoiler-free take on the latest video game movie.

I’d imagine many of you have read many of the mixed reviews for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. That’s ok. I don’t mind being a little late to the table with my own opinion of the movie. Since we’re a video game site and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a movie, I’d prefer not to write a formal review, and instead, describe a little of how the movie works. From my opinion, as well as the others around the web, it should be easy to decide if the movie is worth being seen.

Mailbag Has Been Revived

Zombie mailbag wants your brains. (In a good way.)

Avid fans of PixlBit (Read: Zap) may have noticed I've mentioned the idea of a solo podcast a few times in the past month. While at first, the idea was uncertain, as time passes, it seems to be more and more of a sure thing. How does Mailbag relate? I want to read and respond to listener mail! That's right. I want listener mail! I know the podcast hasn't yet begun, but it will soon, so why not get a head-start? You could be featured. You could be featured in the first edition of "JasonCast" or "PixlJalk," or whatever we decide to name the thing. How about, for the first episode, you send in suggestions for the title of the show? As always, suggestions can go to mailbag AT pixlbit DOT com, but in this case, they can also be sent to jasonr AT pixlbit DOT com, too.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies Review

There's dragons, lots of quests, and warriors. I'd say the game lived up to its name.

When I sat down to play Dragon Quest IX, I just about knew what to expect. At least, I thought I knew what to expect. See, I've played Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest IV, and Dragon Quest V, and as both fans and those familiar with the franchise understand, the mainline Dragon Quest titles have many, many similarities and traditions. While there have been eight games in the series up until now, very few changes have been made to the formula.

Time Crisis: Razing Storm Hands On Preview

I made it a point to hunt down Time Crisis: Razing Storm at this year's E3.

As a fan and owner of the original three main-series Time Crisis games, when I heard Namco was launching a new Time Crisis title, I made sure to schedule some time to hunt down and play the game at E3. To my surprise, Namco-Bandai's booth didn't actually have the title available to play, so for the first two days of E3, I didn't manage to find the game. Then, on the last day, after playing the Little Big Planet 2 demo in Namco's booth, I happened to find a second set of Move-compatible games against the back wall, behind all the PS3 titles, almost as if they were hidden away. It turned out these titles were various third-party Move games, although it seemed all the reps available at the demo corresponded to each game's respective company.

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor Review

The follow-up to the cult N64 classic is finally upon us.

To describe it simply, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is the modern imagining of classic arcade shooters. I've spoken about this particular genre before, when I've talked about rRootage in the past, and honestly, it's a genre I love. Sometimes modern imaginings of classic genres fail to capture the essence of what they seek to improve; Sin & Punishment: Star Successor unquestionably avoids this, successfully reviving and improving the classic arcade shooter.

Dead Rising 2 Release Date Set

Because Capcom was kind enough to send us a 3:00 AM email, I figured I'd post it as a scoop.

Today, whatever you want to count today as, Capcom announced that Dead Rising 2 will be released on September 28th, a delay from the previously announced late-August date.

Monday Night Combat Preview

Tired of Football? Jump into the future of sports with Monday Night Combat!

Monday Night Combat, to me, looked like the best XBLA exclusive on the floor. While I didn't take personal hands-on time with the game, since it looked a little more complex, I watched a developer showcase the game, himself, rather than play it.
