Thought I'd share the playlist I'm listening to this week. This is everything I could find in my collection and which I bought this week. I'm having a lot of fun listening to all this stuff in shuffle mode. It gets me through my last hour of work every night and it's a blast. 

I just finished volume 3 of the original TMNT and found this Abadox game ad under the front cover. Abadox is a 1990 side-scrolling shoot 'em up like a Gradius for the NES. You have to shoot your way through the digestive track of an alien organism. I'm going to have to add it to my list. See pic below:

1991 seems to be the real start of the '90s the way I see it. I heard Blues Traveler, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Spin Doctors all over the radio (As soon as I listened to my playlist tonight, I was immediately brought back to the 90s and everything I did in those years). The SNES came out and the war between Sega and Nintendo began; although, i wasn't gaming at all and wasn't aware of it. The only movie I saw in the theater that year was Woody Allen's Shadow's and Fog. I don't remember anything about it, but I do remember the theater I went to see it in New York. It was a trying year for me that ended in me returning to my hometown. Below I've listed some media I'd like to visit, or in some cases revisit, this week. 

Today began with a lot of NES games, culminating in a Wizardry campaign that saw The Super Friends turn into Super Fiends; and ended with an earfull of potty mouth poetry from the characters of Bulletstorm. Here's the breakdown

What do you do for a nerdfest? Do nerdy things like play games and see science fiction or fantasy flicks. It may be beyond nerdiness to be doing this at my age, but what else do I got? Nuttin'. So there it is. Breakdown below. If it's not too freaky for ya. 

I went a little bit nuts on Gamestop's buy 2 get 1 free sale this weekend. I only had two titles in mind when I went, and each were at different Gamestops, so I ended up hitting the sale twice. Then I couldn't resist visiting my local retro shop just to see what they had on my NES list. Luckily they had a few things I wanted. Gaze at the gaming goodness below:

I didn't interact much with media in 1990; out of school and desperately looking for work to get by didn't leave much time for anything else. I think I heard that band World Party and their single Way Down Now on the radio. I always like them. I was probably listening to rock radio, so I likely heard Alice in Chains and Jane's Addiction for the first time. Gaming didn't happen at all. I didn't read anything either other than Arthur Janov's Primal Scream book (I was doing the therapy at the time). I saw Akira Kurosawa's Dreams in the theater that year with my girlfriend. That's one I remember clearly because it was really good. Eventually I got work doing maintenance at a resort in the woods (I wanted to get into publishing but I got no responses). It was like a summer camp for rich New Yorkers. I did all sorts of jobs there, and it was nice to be outside all the time. I got the nickname "Monk" there for my reticence.

I'm fighting the good fight saving villages in Minecraft from the blight of zombieism. It's no easy task. There are a lot of things you need to do to get that cure made. Mark and I had to start from scratch in a new world full of vulnerable villagers. Here are the things we did. 

That's how episode 3 of Tales from the Borderlands played, all two and one quarter hours of it; constant stutters, stops, and freezes. No outright crashes, but jiggy jaggies all the way through. It actually got me killed in one segment where I couldn't target a flying object because the animation kept stuttering. Oh! And load times. Why are there so many longish loading moments in a game like this? It's not pushing state of the art graphics or masses of gameplay mechanics. It's a long cutscene with some interactive moments. It should run smooth as silk. It was a great story though. The writing and voice acting were all top notch even though the mouths hardly ever matched the dialog. I tell you, somthing needs to be done about the programing in Tell Tale games. Telling great stories can be practically ruined by technical faults.
