Up until the PS2 days, buying games at retail was a pretty straightforward process. Most games were "what you see is what you get" affairs, where the game you picked up in the store that day was a locked-in, static product for the entire time you spent with it. Now? Not so much.

As another E3 looms large, expectations are much different than last year. The specter of MS's DRM and always online machinations clouded the proceedings, allowing Sony to swoop in and crush their competition handily. Nintendo, meanwhile, saw no presence on the E3 stage, opting instead to focus on an E3 Direct and show floor presence.

So I've been considering either a 3DS or a WiiU for the past few months--even wrote a blog about the former way back when. The recent Smash Direct helped finalize my decision pretty quick. It was revealed that Super Smash Bros 4 on 3DS would not only run at 60fps, but would come out several months earlier, have online play, and have all the same characters as well.

So people have been flipping their shit over Facebook's $2 billion acquisition of Kickstarter-backed Oculus. Tears have been shed over the "golden son" of the latest VR craze going corporate. Vitriol has been flung at Oculus, CEO Palmer Lucky and John Carmack over "selling out". Paranoia over Facebook integration, data-mining and ads have swept the Internet! It's mass hysteria!

After Final Round XVII, an Atlanta-based fighting game tournament (which was awesome this year, BTW), Capcom had a special announcement on deck.
