Back To The Future another excellent Tale Tell game

Posted on 04/17/2014 at 11:59 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I was extremely excited when I few years ago I read about TellTale making a new King's Quest game.  They've already had success in continuing old LucasArts adventure series (Sam and Max and Monkey Island), so I was looking forward to them taking on a classic Sierra series and maybe branching out to other ones (Space Quest!). I was really bummed out when I heard they cancelled it for some reason.

I played this game awhile back and had a lot of fun with it. I've played most of Telltale's adventure games since back when they released their first Sam and Max game.

I'm currently playing two games, one of which is only a couple months old  - Dark Souls II.  The other, depending on how you want to judge it, is either 22 years old (Japan release) or 5 years old (North American DS release) - Dragon Quest 5.

I think I've burned myself out on Bravely Default

I typically like to beat every game I play, but there are at least a couple RPGs where I have quit at the final boss and then just watched the ending on youtube (I know I did this with Persona 1).  I feel less guilty about doing this with RPGs, especially after I go on the internet to finds tips on fighting the boss and realize that is less about skill and more about grinding more.  "Oh, everyone who is suggesting strategies is like 20 levels above me.  Should I spent 10 more hours grinding just to beat one last boss? Hell no! Youtube here I come."  I still feel like I beat them anyways.  It's when I can't beat the final boss in an action game that I become really frustrated.

Damn, I forgot the witty title I was going to use.

I forget how old I am all the time.  I don't really think about it much.  I still feel the same as I did as when I was in my early 20s.

I'm 33 and still get carded fairly often when buying alcohol at one of my non-regular stores. A couple months ago the cashier must not have believed my license was really me (my hair is alot longer than in the picture), so she asked me my age.  She had to think my ID was fake when my response was "uhhhh....32...no 33,I think...umm..I was born in 1980."  I was surprised she still sold it to me.

Devil Summoner PS2 available tomorrow on PSN

Awesome.  Since I don't have a functioning PS2 and don't plan on getting another one, I figured that I would never be able to play this game.  I hope they release Nocturne in the near future too.

I was not really aware of SMT until I played Persona 3 on the PS3 (off of the PSN).  I loved it and became interested in the "real" SMT games, but didn't have a system to play them.  Instead I played through Persona 1&2 on the PS3 and then Persona 4 on Vita when it came out.

Last year I got a 3DS and then eagerly bought every single DS and 3DS SMT game.  So far I've only played SMT IV and started on Strange Journey, but I plan on eventually playing them all.

I have yet to see a PS4 in the wild.

I've had mostly the same experience.  Both the Best Buys I go to (one near my work and one near my house) have had a bunch of Xbox Ones on display every time I go in there, but I have not seen a PS4 at either yet.

Three weeks ago was the only time I saw a PS4 anywhere.  I was at the mall picking up glasses when I noticed a gamestop had a sign announcing PS4's having just arrived.  It was all I could do not to go over and grab one.  Despite the fact that I have several hundred of hours of newly-bought video games that I would prefer to play over anything currently on the PS4 (with the exception of Infamous that just came out), I still felt a strong urge to buy it.  I'm hoping I can hold off for at least a year, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it.  When I noticed that Amazon had them in stock again a few days ago I briefly had it in my cart before I talked some sense into myself.

Dark Souls II Preview

Really looking forward to playing this game.  I made the mistake of thinking that since I've bought literally over a couple dozen games for my newly purchased 3DS over the past few months (not to mention a dozen or so games I've recently downloaded off the PSN), that I would be able to wait for several months for a price drop.

I could only make it two days after it came until I broke down and went to some nearby stores at lunch to buy it.  Unfortunately the places I went had already sold out, so I decided to order it on-line.  Most places were sold out and amazon was selling it for $10 more than normal for some reason.  I waited a couple more days and Amazon's price went back to normal, but it had a note about how shipping would take longer than normal.  It still hasn't shipped yet!  The wait is killing me.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Review

I had never heard about this game prior to this review, and now I really want it.  Being a fan of Zero Escape, Ace Attorney, and the social links aspect of Persona, this game really looks like something I would enjoy.

I agree there needs to be a better name.  Oddly enough, I was just reading some stuff about the term 'metroidvania' (due to a twitter conversation I read where Jeremy Parish was again having to deny creating the term).  Although it seems that nobody really knows where the term came from, apparantly it was originally used to refer exclusively to post-SOTN Castlevania games, and the word was used to differentiate them from the previous, more linear ones.  Then I guess the term just somehow took on a life of its own after that.
