I bought both the N64 and Playstation but it was Mario 64 that brought the real excitement for me and my wife. There had never been a game like it.
The N64 didn't have the quantity of games that the Playstation had but they had many that are still some of my favourites even today.
It was RPGs on the Playstation that managed to pull me away for a while and games like Crash and Spyro but none of them made me give up on Nintendo. They brought the fun and have continued to do so.
For the next generation it was Gamecube then PS2 and finally Xbox (in order of purchase). Following that it was Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 and Nintendo only came second because the 360 released well before it and I needed something for my kid's Christmas present.
I have no current generation home consoles but if I had to pick one it would be the Wii U. I could come up with 10 games straight off that I'd buy for it. The other two haven't shown me anything to get really excited about yet.
Up until now I've always bought all the systems because each had games I wanted to play.
